Wimbledon predictions and best bets for Day 2 – July 1st:

There’s nothing better than grass-court tennis at the All England Club, so we’re excited about Wimbledon over here at VSiN. Throughout the tournament, I’m going to be providing you with daily tennis best bets. That continues with the action on Tuesday, July 1st, so keep reading for my Day 2 Wimbledon picks.

I also post more tennis plays on the Pro Picks page. I occasionally add picks throughout the day, as I like to see how odds are moving. So, keep checking that page every couple of hours if you want more of my action. That’s also where you’ll find picks from Gill Alexander, who does great work handicapping tennis on A Numbers Game. You can watch Gill analyze tennis Monday to Friday from 10:00 am to noon ET. That said, if you like tennis, you might want to consider becoming a VSiN Pro.

2025 Record: 813-786-1 (+35.27 units)

Xinyu Wang vs. Karolina Muchova
George Loffhagen vs. Pedro Martinez

When looking at VSiN betting splits, it’s pretty clear that there’s some sharp money on Wang. Muchova was -115 when this thing first opened, but she’s now up at +110. So, I’m intrigued by backing Wang, but I don’t want to take her to win the match outright. Instead, I’m going to take her to win a set and pair it with another play I’m confident in. Wang is coming off a run to the semifinals in Berlin, where she beat Ons Jabeur, Daria Kasatkina, Coco Gauff, Paula Badosa and Liudmila Samsonova before falling in a tight three-set match against Marketa Vondrousova in the final. She’s really playing some good grass-court tennis, so she should be able to find a way to at least force a decider against a banged-up Muchova — who is now playing with a one-handed backhand because of an injury to her left wrist.

For the second leg, I’m backing a good young grass-courter, playing at home, against a clay-court specialist. Martinez is just 3-10 on grass in his career, and he really doesn’t have the game for it. He’s also 0-4 on the surface over the last 52 weeks. Meanwhile, Loffhagen is coming off an impressive showing in Eastbourne, where he beat Mackenzie McDonald and Billy Harris in qualifying, then lost in an extremely tight match against Reilly Opelka, 7-6 (6), 3-6, 7-6 (1). Going the distance and pushing a servebot like that to a third-set breaker is no small feat. So, if nerves don’t get the best of Loffhagen, I see him winning this match somewhat comfortably. That’s why the world No. 293 is significantly favored against somebody that’s over 200 spots ahead of him in the rankings.

PARLAY: Wang +1.5 Sets & Loffhagen ML (-133)

Gael Monfils vs. Ugo Humbert

Monfils isn’t in great form entering this match, but I like him to push Humbert. Monfils has actually won two of the last three meetings between these two, so we know he has the game to trouble his younger countryman. That’s because both of these players have excellent serves, but it’s Monfils that plays big points a little better. That’s ultimately why I’m taking the games with Monfils.

Humbert could very well win this match. When I filled out a bracket on the men’s side, I actually had him losing to Jannik Sinner in the quarterfinals. However, this is a big game spread for two players that hold easily and struggle to break serve.

For as inconsistent as Monfils has been this year, his hold percentage is up at 84.5% on the season. That’s the second-highest mark he has had in his long career, and it’s also the highest mark he has posted since 2016. Well, hitting spots frequently makes it very difficult to get blown off the court at Wimbledon.

Let’s just hope Monfils is healthy coming into this one. He didn’t look right in a loss to Mackenzie McDonald at Queen’s Club, but he has had two weeks to recover. I’m thinking he’ll be alright, especially as a veteran that knows how to preserve his body. However, the fact it’s a concern at all is why I’m going smaller on this play than I normally would.

Bet: Monfils +4.5 Games (-122)

Added Plays

I usually have A LOT MORE on the Pro Picks page. Those plays count towards my record and have been a big part of my success this season. Make sure you check them out. I’ll probably add a few more over there, so refresh that page throughout the day if you’re looking for action.
