Jasmine Paolini vs. Jessica Pegula

Group play at the WTA Finals will be wrapped up by the end of Thursday. Elena Rybakina and Amanda Anisimova already booked their spots in the semifinals, but there’s still a little left to be figured out in the group containing Paolini, Pegula, Aryna Sabalenka, and Coco Gauff. However, the one thing that’s certain is that Paolini is already eliminated, and Pegula can use a win — and preferably a straight-set win. That’s why the American is listed at -122 to win without dropping a set, and that’s exactly where I’m going with this one.

If Paolini had a little more to play for, this is a match that would be lined a lot closer — and potentially one in which backing the Italian would be an option. However, it’s hard to go out there with very little motivation. Also, Paolini hasn’t looked right since arriving in Riyadh. She’s not serving very well, her movement looks a little off, and her range isn’t there.

Perhaps everything will come back to Paolini with no pressure heading into this one — especially with Pegula having the weight of the world on her shoulders. However, I’m willing to take a shot on Pegula getting what she needs out of this matchup. Pegula also happens to be 5-0 against Paolini in her career. All five of those wins came in straight sets. Though it’s worth noting that they haven’t met since the start of the 2024 season, and Paolini has obviously become a different beast since then.

Bet: Pegula -1.5 Sets (-122)

NOTE: I might add something on the later match after finding out the result of this one, as we’ll have a very good idea of what needs to happen there.

Added Plays

I usually have A LOT MORE on the Pro Picks page. Those plays count towards my record and have been a big part of my success this season. Make sure you check them out. I’ll probably add a few more over there, so refresh that page throughout the day if you’re looking for action.
