⚽ Every match matters today
Well, that was quite a finish to USA-Turkey, which I watched at Circa last night. Safe to say, it was a good game for the books.

Turkey scored the winner in stoppage time for a 3-2 victory, but the result didn’t matter for the Americans, who had already clinched first place in Group D.

Next up: Bosnia on Wednesday in the Round of 32.

Before then, every team taking the field on World Cup Day 16 still has something to play for — either first place or a chance, however slim, to advance.

Today’s menu (Circa odds):

Group I (3 ET)
France (-160) vs. Norway (+395) (Draw +345)
Iraq (+1150) vs. Senegal (-445) (Draw +585)

Motivation: France (6 points) and Norway (6) have already qualified, but first place remains at stake. France wins the group with a draw. Senegal must beat Iraq to keep its third-place hopes alive. Iraq needs a win and plenty of help after beginning the day with a minus-6 goal differential.

Nigel Seeley is focused on the stars — Kylian Mbappé and Erling Haaland.

“As good as Haaland has been, I think Mbappé is the player more likely to shine in this matchup. France’s captain has looked sensational through the opening two games, scoring four goals and producing moments of real quality.”

Group H (8 p.m. ET)
Spain (-205) vs. Uruguay (+635) (Draw +328)
Saudi Arabia (+170) vs. Cabo Verde (+170) (Draw +232)

Motivation: Spain (4 points) is on the brink of advancing. Uruguay (2) and Cabo Verde (2) likely need draws to stay alive, while Saudi Arabia (1) needs a victory.

Group G (11 p.m. ET)
Belgium (-630) vs. New Zealand (+1650) (Draw +720)
Egypt (+146) vs. Iran (+287) (Draw +165)

Motivation: Every team still has a path to the knockout round. Egypt (4) is on the brink of advancing. Belgium (2) and Iran (2) need at least a draw, while New Zealand (1) needs a victory.

Alex Blowers is most interested in Belgium-New Zealand.

“The game I’m focused on is between the impressive New Zealand and unimpressive Belgium.”

⚾ Greg’s Best Bets
Greg Peterson likes the Yankees behind Will Warren, who has been even better on the road than at Yankee Stadium this season.

He also expects runs to be at a premium at Fenway Park, with both starting pitchers entering Friday in solid form and Boston’s offense struggling to produce at home.

Greg’s Best Bets:
Yankees Moneyline (-110)
Under 8.5 Runs

Greg’s projected line: Yankees -122
Greg’s projected total: 8.1
