We’re getting into our football rhythm here at VSiN.
We had our first NFL Sunday with the new lineup, starting off with Mitch Moss and Pauly Howard on the VSiN Pro Football Tailgate Show (9-Noon ET).
The same is true for VSiN.com. Managing Editor Adam Burke has put together a handy daily schedule showing when VSiN writers will post particular features on pro and college football.
For example, this is the lineup for today:
NFL
- Steve Makinen: NFL Analytics Report & Misc. Betting Systems
- Mike Somich: Best Bets for Next Week’s Lookahead Lines
- Dave Tuley: Tuley’s NFL Takes
- Josh Appelbaum: Early Sharp Report
College Football
- Adam Burke: CFB Best Bets
- Zach Cohen: Saturday “Games of the Week” Previews
- Steve Makinen: CFB Best Bets
Some of these stories will come in late Tuesday so I can include the links in the newsletter (like Steve’s Week 2 betting systems and Mike’s Week 3 lookahead); some not until morning.
Every week we collect these stories and put the links on “Hub” pages, which you can find at the top of the VSiN.com home page.
Now you know what to expect and when to expect it.
How to use Makinen’s weekly projections

A VSiN.com reader, Stephen S. from San Jose, asked me to explain how to use Steve Makinen’s weekly college football projections, which you can find here.
I get this question at least a few times at the beginning of the season, so I will share my answer.
Steve has three different sets of power ratings, so you can compare them to the actual line and see where the differences are. (He explains what makes them different on the page.)
The green star highlights where the difference between the actual line and the projection is more than three points, enough to be worthy of a play.
In the case of Saturday’s Memphis-Troy game (above), his bettors’ rating is projecting a score of 32.9-24.9, so a spread of -8 vs. the actual line of -4.5 and a total of 57.5 vs. the current 51.5. Since the differences are more than 3 points, the two stars indicate the plays are Troy and Over.
Steve does these power rating projections for the NFL, too. He posts CFB on Mondays and NFL on Tuesdays.
Contest Corner
I tracked down Atlanta elementary school teacher Patrick O’Connell, the Week 1 winner of the EdgeBoost Average Joe Contest. >>Standings.
I love watching the Friday night show, so the Average Joe contest is fun for me.
Of course, my big question was whether he had signed up for EdgeBoost, which awards $500 to the top weekly finisher and adds $500 if you already have an EdgeBoost account.
Answer: Yes, so he is in for $1,000.
Average Joe reminder: You can sign up at any point in the season for a chance to win weekly (see above) and quarterly prizes (trips to Las Vegas).
Also on the contest front: A Numbers Game host Gill Alexander offers his Week 2 survivor advice.
