The 2024 MLB season is in full swing and we continue to come at it from a bunch of different directions. This season, VSiN Managing Editor Adam Burke will have you covered when it comes to MLB sides and totals in his daily best bets column. You’ll also get some First Five Inning analysis from Jonathan Von Tobel. On top of that, our analytics guru Steve Makinen will feed you some interesting trends and systems on a daily basis. But I’ll be focusing specifically on MLB player props this season, dishing out at least three per day every Monday to Friday. With that in mind, let’s get into the plays for Monday, May 27th.

Washington Nationals at Atlanta Braves – 4:10 pm ET

Mitchell Parker has a tough matchup against the Braves today, but I still like the lefty to flirt with five strikeouts. So, the fact that it’s out there at plus-money odds is hard to pass up. Parker has had at least five strikeouts in three of his last five starts, and he’s coming off a seven-strikeout performance against the Minnesota Twins. Parker also happens to be getting Atlanta in its first game since losing Ronald Acuna Jr. for the season. With that in mind, he’s not facing the Braves at their absolute best, and we’re not sure how this lineup is going to look without the superstar — who gives Atlanta a great combination of both speed and power. Overall, I just don’t see any reason Parker can’t rack up some strikeouts today, especially considering the Braves are 15th in the league in strikeout rate against lefties. He has above-average stuff and is getting more and more comfortable with every start.

Pick: Parker Over 4.5 Strikeouts (+128 – 1.5 units)

Cleveland Guardians at Colorado Rockies – 4:10 pm ET

This game has the highest total on the board today, so I wanted to try and find a hitter from one of these two teams. Well, I ended up landing on Jose Ramirez, and I’m playing the 31-year-old slugger to go Over 2.5 hits, runs and RBIs. Ramirez happens to be pretty hot coming into this game, as he has gone Over tonight’s mark in four of his last five games. Now, Ramirez gets to go to work against a Rockies team that is throwing righty Anthony Molina to the mound here. Ramirez absolutely crushes righties, so he can easily get to Molina early on. But this is going to be a game in which Colorado also dips into its bullpen quite a bit, as Molina hasn’t pitched more than 3.2 innings in a single outing this year. Well, Colorado has the highest bullpen ERA in baseball this year. So, Ramirez will be in favorable matchups pretty much whenever he’s up at the plate today.

Pick: Ramirez Over 2.5 Hits + Runs + RBIs (-135)

Houston Astros at Seattle Mariners – 9:40 pm ET

I usually like to play the Over on strikeout totals when the Mariners are facing right-handed pitchers. But the reality is that they’re also pretty miserable about making contact against lefties. Sure, Seattle’s 28.8% strikeout rate against righties is the highest in baseball, but the team’s 25.9% strikeout rate against southpaws is the second-highest in the league. With that in mind, this is still a great matchup for a left-handed pitcher like Framber Valdez. I know Valdez only had three strikeouts against the Mariners in his start against them on May 4th, but I still love his chances of reaching six strikeouts tonight. Valdez has had at least six strikeouts in two of his last five starts, and he also had at least six strikeouts in two of his three starts against the Mariners last season. So, I’m willing to flush that last meeting with Seattle and take a shot on this. Valdez has also been a better pitcher on the road since the start of the 2021 season.

Pick: Valdez Over 5.5 Strikeouts (-132 – 1.5 units)
