MLB Player Props for Wednesday, May 15
The 2024 MLB season is in full swing and we continue to come at it from a bunch of different directions. This season, VSiN Managing Editor Adam Burke will have you covered when it comes to MLB sides and totals in his daily best bets column. You’ll also get some First Five Inning analysis from Jonathan Von Tobel. On top of that, our analytics guru Steve Makinen will feed you some interesting trends and systems on a daily basis. But I’ll be focusing specifically on MLB player props this season, dishing out at least three per day every Monday to Friday. With that in mind, let’s get into the plays for Wednesday, May 15th.

Washington Nationals at Chicago White Sox – 2:10 pm ET
Patrick Corbin is 1-3 with a 5.91 ERA this season, so he hasn’t made any strides towards turning back into the pitcher he was in 2019. If anything, a good argument can be made that he’s worse than ever. But Corbin still has two starts this season in which he has struck out at least five batters. And the White Sox have the third-highest strikeout rate (26.5%) in the league against left-handed pitching this season. With that in mind, I really like the idea of taking Corbin to rack up five strikeouts at +132 odds. Perhaps he’ll still turn in a rough outing in this game, but he can still do that while missing some bats. And I’d rather get plus-money odds on Corbin to reach five strikeouts than go for four strikeouts at nearly -160.
Pick: Corbin Over 4.5 Strikeouts (+132)
Colorado Rockies at San Diego Padres – 4:10 pm ET
I had Austin Gomber to go Over 3.5 strikeouts against the Texas Rangers in his last start. The lefty ended up missing five bats and giving up only one earned run in 6.2 innings of action. I do end up fading Gomber quite a bit in this article, but that’s only because he has to pitch at Coors Field. But Gomber is really a solid pitcher and I like him to flirt with 6.0 innings pitched against the Padres tonight. He recorded 16 outs against the Philadelphia Phillies in his second-to-last road start, and he recorded 18 outs against the Pittsburgh Pirates in his most recent road start. Well, Gomber now faces a San Diego team that is miserable against left-handed pitching. Only six teams in the league have a lower wRC+ against southpaws, so this is a great matchup for Gomber. And this ballpark happens to be pitcher friendly.
Pick: Gomber Over 16.5 Outs Recorded (-118)
Kansas City Royals at Seattle Mariners – 4:10 pm ET
Alec Marsh is having a great season for Kansas City so far, as he’s 3-0 with a 2.53 ERA and 24 strikeouts over 32.0 innings of work. Marsh has also gotten himself going with the swing-and-miss stuff lately, racking up at least six strikeouts in two of his last three starts. Well, Marsh should be able to get in touch with that side of himself again tonight. Seattle has the highest strikeout rate (29.0%) in baseball against right-handed pitching, by far. This Mariners team can occasionally be dangerous, but they’re better against lefties than righties. And they just chase far too many pitches outside of the zone. So, I like Marsh to have another six-strikeout performance tonight. And I love that you barely need to deal with any juice to take it.
Pick: Marsh Over 5.5 Strikeouts (-111)
