MLB value plays for Tuesday, May 23rd

Greg Peterson posts his daily handicapped MLB lines for every game every day. Based on his lines vs. the actual lines, here is where Peterson sees value on today’s menu. Peterson also does a daily podcast, The Baseball Betting Show, on which he breaks down every game every day.

White Sox vs. Guardians Total 8. Greg’s Total 7.4.

The Guardians are last in the league in runs per game at home with 2.9 and are 28th in the league in batting average. The last time Logan Allen faced the White Sox, he allowed one run in 5 2/3 innings, a 3-1 win for the Guardians on May 18. White Sox starter Dylan Cease opposed Allen in that 3-1 game, and the Guardians are also sixth in the league in bullpen ERA.

Blue Jays vs. Rays (-130). Greg’s Line: Rays -162

Blue Jays starter Jose Berrios is a different starter at home versus on the road. He posts an ERA of 2.22 at home compared to 6.67 on the road. Berrios has to face a Rays lineup that leads the league in home runs and is second in both batting average and runs. Rays starter Taj Bradley has allowed three runs or fewer in all four of his starts this season.

Athletics vs. Mariners Total 8.5. Greg’s Total 9.2.

The Athletics have an 8.23 road ERA; no other team has an ERA of 5.76 or worse on the road. The Athletics are hitting better on the road than at home with 3.3 runs per game in Oakland compared to four runs per game on the road. They face Mariners starter Marco Gonzales, who has a 6.10 ERA and an opponents batting average of .301.
