Thursday Best Bet Results
As we stated in our ATS Report, Thursday was mostly spent following the first round of the U.S. Open. I’m leaving the golf coverage to my VSiN colleagues as I haven’t made any golf bets, though I am heavily involved in some U.S. Open pools, including one that I’m leading as my three-some of Rickie Fowler (tied for 1st), Dustin Johnson (tied for 3rd) and Bryson DeChambeau (tied for 7th) shot a combined 17-under-par in Thursday’s first round with combined placing of 11. But there’s a long way to go.

As for my actual Best Bets on the day, I pushed on my top play as the Blue Jays First 5 Innings +105 at the Orioles pushed as we fell behind 1-0 in the bottom of the 1st, then Toronto’s Danny Jansen hit homers in back-to-back at-bats in the 3rd and 5th innings to give us a 2-1 lead only to have the Orioles tie it at 2-2 in the bottom of the 5th.
We did win our secondary play of the day on the Guardians First 5 +120 at the Padres as they jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the 1st as we expected off Ryan Weathers and held on to win our bet at 7-6 through 5 innings – plus also went on to win 8-6 for those betting our plays on the full-game money line. That helped pay for my son Maddux’s 14th birthday party at Chuck E. Cheese (he’s always been short for his age, but he’s had a huge growth spurt these past few months to now stand 5-foot-7 and was a foot and a half taller than all the other kids at parties at the surrounding tables and dancing with Chuck E.).
We’ve mostly been trading money in the month of June (after profiting +15.6 units in May), but we’re still 8-6-3 the last 7 days for a net profit of 2.92 units, according to the VSiN Pro Picks page. And, while we’re still below .500 this month at 15-16-6 (which we try to point out to people isn’t all that bad when you consider how many play-money dogs I play and don’t need to hit 50% to make a profit), we’re back in the black at +0.8 units.
Let’s look for MLB plays on Friday with the NBA and NHL playoffs moving further back in our rear-view mirror, plus I still have one early USFL play for the weekend that we first posted the other day.
MLB Friday Best Bets
Yankees First 5 Innings +110 at Red Sox: Weren’t we supposed to get fewer division games this season? Didn’t these rivals just play last weekend? Yes, but they didn’t meet the first 2 months of the season, so we get the Yankees-Red Sox again. I know Boston won 2-of-3 in New York last weekend, but I still think the Yankees (39-30) should be favored over the Red Sox (34-35) even on the road, especially with Domingo German (4-3, 3.49 ERA) vs. Tanner Houck (3-6, 5.23 ERA).
Cubs First 5 Innings +100 vs. Orioles: The Cubs are coming off a three-game home sweep of the Pirates and now send out Kyle Hendricks (1-2, 3.09 ERA) vs. Cole Irvin (1-2, 7.85 ERA). I’ll take the Cubbies to defend the Friendly Confines, at least for the first half of the game.
USFL Week 10 Best Bet for Saturday
Pittsburgh Maulers-New Jersey Generals Under 41: If you follow me on Twitter @ViewFromVegas, you might have seen this play posted on Monday afternoon. We’ll get more into my USFL plays (5-0 ATS) later in the week as the regular season comes to a close, but I wanted to lock in this play as it’s down to 40.5 at Circa Sports here in Vegas and we expect it to go lower before game day instead of higher (though William Hill does have it at 41.5 for those with that book in their state).
