NHL Predictions and Best Bets:

Here are tonight’s NHL predictions and best bets.

Seattle Kraken at Washington Capitals

Seattle Kraken (+180) at Washington Capitals (-220) – Total 6.5 (Under, -120)

5 p.m. ET

On paper, this game should be a layup for the Capitals but not at this price. If you like Washington, then I would look at the Capitals on the puck line (-1.5, +118). Both of Seattle’s losses this season (3-1 to Edm and 6-2 to Vegas) have been by 2+ goals. My biggest concern in playing the Capitals today is that they are coming off games against Tampa, the Hurricanes and the Rangers. After today, they face three more Eastern Conference opponents, Carolina, Montreal, and New Jersey. Could this be a letdown or a look-ahead game? Also, Kraken goalie Joey Daccord, despite just one win in four tries against the Caps, has a goals against average of 2.03. Dating back to last season, the Capitals are 13-1-2 in their last 16 home games.

My favorite play in this game and maybe my favorite play of the day is a shots on goal parlay prop. The Kraken’s Bobby McMann has had three shots on goal or more in all five games this season and two shots on goal or more in five of six meetings against the Caps. Washington’s Ryan Leonard extended his streak yesterday of registering two shots on goal or more in 14 consecutive games. He has had at least two shots on goal or more versus the Kraken in three straight and six of seven. McMann has also found the back of the net against the Kraken, with four goals in six games and two in two games against Capitals projected starting goalie Charlie Lindgren. It’s been a tough start for Jordan Kyrou, who has just one assist in four games, but this could be his “get right” game. Kyrou has 10 goals in 14 games against Seattle, including four goals in five games against Joey Daccord, who is expected to get the start today for Seattle. Alex Tuch has three goals in five games against the Kraken netminder.

NHL Predictions and Best Bets:
McMann/Leonard each 2+ shots on goal (+100) – 3 units
Jordan Kyrou anytime goal (+310) – ¼ unit
Alex Tuch anytime goal (+190) – ¼ unit
Bobby McMann anytime goal (+240) – ¼ unit

Vancouver Canucks at New York Rangers

Vancouver (+220) at New York Rangers (-275) – Total 6 (Over, -125)

6 p.m. ET

A season-ending knee injury suffered by Rangers goalie Igor Shesterkin in Friday’s loss to the Capitals means that, for now, Dylan Garand is the Blueshirts number one goalie. Many of you are saying, “Who is Dylan Garand? He was the Rangers ‘ fourth-round selection in the 2020 NHL Draft. Including his one start this season and having to come off the bench Friday, he has just five NHL games under his belt. He has made one start this season, a 22-save shutout against the Red Wings.

After scoring 13 goals in their first two games, the Canucks have scored just five goals in their past three games. Vancouver is coming off a 4-1 loss to the Devils on Saturday and have now dropped three straight.

I am going to keep it simple for this game and give you one prop parlay. The Rangers’ Pavel Dorofeyev has registered at least three shots on goal in four of six games this season and in eight of his ten head-to-head meetings with the Canucks. Defenseman Adam Fox has an assist in four of five games this season and in five of his last six meetings versus Vancouver.

NHL Predictions and Best Bets:
Pavel Dorofeyev 3+ shots on goal/Fox assist (+137) – 1 unit

Carolina Hurricanes at Philadelphia Flyers

Carolina Hurricanes (-210) at Philadelphia Flyers (+170) – Total 5.5 (Over, -120)

7 p.m. ET

The Philadelphia Flyers are an absolute mess. Philadelphia is one of three teams (LA Kings, Calgary Flames) still searching for their first win of the season. The Flyers have scored just seven goals (the fewest in the league), and only the Calgary Flames (-19) have a worse goal differential. They have been outshot 219-121 in their six games and have given up fewer than 32 shots once this season. In their earlier meeting this season with the Hurricanes, they were outshot 40-18 yet pushed the game to overtime and lost 3-2. Seven of the last nine meetings between the two teams have gone past regulation, and five of those ended with Carolina winning the game, 3-2.

Let’s talk about props for this game. Carolina’s Taylor Hall has cashed his shots on goal prop (Over 1.5) in four straight, eight of his last 10 dating back to last season and in each of his last four and nine of his last 13 games against the Flyers. Logan Stankoven has registered at least two shots on goal in four of his last five games and 10 of 11 versus the Flyers. Jackson Blake has an assist in each of Carolina’s last five games and in eight of 10 against the Flyers. Both Sebastian Aho and Jordan Staal have four goals in six games versus Flyers projected starting goalie Joseph Woll.

NHL Predictions and Best Bets:
Carolina Hurricanes Over 31.5 SOG (-113) – 1 unit
Carolina Hurricanes Over 31.5 SOG/Flyers Under 24.5 SOG (+200) – ½ unit
Jackson Blake Over ½ assist (+180) – ½ unit
Jordan Staal anytime goal (+360) – ¼ unit
Sebastian Aho anytime goal (+180) – ¼ unit
Stankoven/Hall each 2+ SOG (+130) – 2 units
Regulation Draw (+350) – ¼ unit
Game ends 2-2 in regulation (+1100) – .10 units
