This report is meant to emulate the process that Steve Makinen and other members of the VSiN Analytics team undergo when handicapping each day’s MLB board.

AJ’s Angles

These are the top MLB betting trends and systems for today’s games, handpicked by VSiN Analyst AJ Makinen.

* In MLB games occurring in August or later between two teams who have >= 0.580 win pct, smaller favorites in the -111 to -175 line range have gone 58-26 SU for +22.53 units (ROI: 26.8%) in the last five seasons.
System Match (PLAY): MILWAUKEE (-113 vs LAD)

Trend: Under the total is 6-1 (85.7%, +4.95 units) in the last seven of the Dodgers-Brewers set at American Family Field
– The ROI on this trend is 70.7%
Trend Match (PLAY UNDER): LAD-MIL (o/u at 6)

Notable Postseason Team Trends (since 2015)
* MILWAUKEE: 24-9-1 to the Under for +14.1 units
Trend Match (PLAY UNDER): LAD-MIL (o/u at 6)

Line angles
Home favorites of -112 to -180 in the MLB playoffs dating back to 2018 have been very vulnerable. They are just 96-90 SU (-31.74 units, ROI: -17.1%)
System Match (FADE): MILWAUKEE (-113 vs LAD)

Series wins status
Home field has also proven somewhat advantageous in series that are even, as hosts in this situation have gone 99-89 on run lines (+24.32 units, ROI: 12.9%) since 2015.
System Match (PLAY): MILWAUKEE (+1.5 vs LAD)

Totals angles
The last four MLB postseasons have been very good for Over bettors, as that side of the total has gone 112-108-3, and Overs
have produced a return of +18.69 units, an ROI of 8.5%.
System Match (PLAY OVER): LAD-MIL (o/u at 6)

LCS Round angles
Game 1 home teams in the LCS round are on a 13-7 SU (+3.99 units, ROI: 20%) surge since 2015 but did lose both games in 2025.
System Match (PLAY): MILWAUKEE (-113 vs LAD)

MLB Bullpen Systems

The following systems and qualifying plays are from the weekly update series on handicapping MLB teams using Steve Makinen’s bullpen strength ratings.

Better bullpen small favorite teams in -111 to -126 range are thriving in 2026
In the 2026 regular season, small favorite teams in the -111 to -126 line range with a SM Bullpen Rating edge fared quite well. Last season this was about a -6% ROI angle. However, there is some foundation to the system in that with teams this closely matched together by the oddsmakers, it can often be good bullpen performance that separates the teams. For ’26, these teams finished 266-187 for +45.33 units, an ROI of +10% (2-0, +2.00 unit in the playoffs).
System Match (PLAY): MILWAUKEE (-113 vs LAD)

Worse bullpen teams continue to struggle in extending winning streaks
I have found that fading teams with a lesser SM bullpen ratings that were looking to extend winning streaks is also a strong strategy. In the 2023-2025 regular seasons, on two-game winning streaks, the teams with worse Steve Makinen Bullpen Ratings in a matchup have gone 648-696 for -59.7 units, an ROI of -4.4%. For 2026, they went 192-235 for -57.88 units (ROI -13.6%) (1-1, -0.23 units in the playoffs).
System Match (FADE): LA DODGERS (-107 at MIL)
