NHL Predictions and Best Bets:

Here are today’s NHL predictions and best bets.

Washington Capitals at NY Rangers (-110, +5.5)

7 p.m. ET

After all 32 teams were in action on Saturday, only the Washington Capitals and New York Rangers were deemed to have enough left in the tank to play on Sunday. Both teams are on the back end of a back-to-back and play their third game in four days. The Rangers opened as a small (-120) home favorite, but we are seeing this line move towards pick ’em with both sides at (-110).

After dropping their opening game to the Bruins (3-1), the Capitals bounced back on Saturday, building up a 4-0 lead and hanging on to a 4-2 win, led by a pair of goals from Aliaksei Protas. Protas leads the Caps in scoring after two games with four points (two goals, two assists). Protas has three goals and seven points in 10 career games against the Rangers, including one goal in four games against Rangers starting goalie, Jonathan Quick.

Alexander Ovechkin is still looking for his first goal of the season, but he did earn an assist in the victory over the Islanders on Saturday. Last season, the Great 8 was held goalless for three consecutive games only twice, including the opening three games of the 2024-25 campaign. For his career, Ovechkin has 46 goals and 72 points in 76 games against the Rangers, including eight goals in 17 games (91 shots on goal) against Jonathan Quick. Capitals goalie Charlie Lindgren is 3-1, with a 1.48 goals against average in his career against the Rangers.

After dropping their opening game of the season to the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Rangers bounced back with a pair of wins over Buffalo and then blasted the Penguins 6-1 on Saturday in head coach Mike Sullivan’s return to Pittsburgh. Defenseman Adam Fox scored twice last night and leads the team with three goals (7 other players have one goal) and has two goals in three games versus Capitals starting goalie, Charlie Lindgren.
