⚽ World Cup Enters Speed Round
The race to the knockout stage gets serious today.

Groups A, B and C play their final matches, with simultaneous kickoffs designed to eliminate any competitive advantage.

The top two teams in each group advance to the final 32 along with the top eight third-place teams.

Today’s menu (Circa odds):

Group B (3 p.m. ET)
Switzerland (+135) vs. Canada (+247) (Draw +205)
Bosnia and Herzegovina (-270) vs. Qatar (+690) (Draw +439)

Motivation: Canada (4 points) and Switzerland (4) are all but through to the knockout stage. Bosnia (1) and Qatar (1) need to win to have a chance to advance as a third-place finisher.

Nigel Seeley likes the Switzerland-Canada match.

“I feel this game will be more open than the market expects, with Canada’s high-energy style not suited to sitting back for 90 minutes, especially when roared on by a passionate home support.”

Group C (6 p.m. ET)
Scotland (+600) vs. Brazil (-254) (Draw +450)
Morocco (-155) vs. Haiti (+1600) (Draw +530)

Motivation: Brazil (4 points) and Morocco (4) are all but through. Scotland (3) could advance even with a loss, depending on goal differential. Haiti (0) is out.

Alex Blowers likes Brazil. He just doesn’t like the price.

“Everything points to a Brazil win, but at -245 the Moneyline is at a price I’m not willing to play.”

Group A (9 p.m. ET)
Czech Republic (+275) vs. Mexico (-112) (Draw +305)
South Africa (+163) vs. South Korea (+163) (Draw +302)

Motivation: Mexico (6 points) has already won the group. South Korea (3) would finish second with a win or draw. South Africa (1) and Czech Republic (1) could advance with victories.

Tuesday Postscript: I did a wellness check on Nigel, who was in Boston for England’s scoreless draw against Ghana.

“Boring. Boring. Boring.”

🏀 Everything Went According To Plan. Until Dallas.
VSiN.com senior editor Zach Cohen shares his thoughts on the first round of the NBA Draft:

Despite all the uncertainty heading into the NBA Draft, things were as chalky as can be.

The first four picks went exactly as expected: AJ Dybantsa, Darryn Peterson, Cameron Boozer and Caleb Wilson.

Picks 5 through 7 were similarly predictable. Some VSiN hosts and analysts even cashed tickets on Kingston Flemings landing with Atlanta at No. 8.

Then Dallas stepped in.

The Mavs selected Michigan’s Morez Johnson Jr. at No. 9, raising eyebrows around the league and lending immediate credibility to the influence of new head coach Dusty May.

The rich got richer: Oklahoma City added 7-foot-3 rim protector Aday Mara and scoring guard Bennett Stirtz, while San Antonio beefed up its frontcourt with Jayden Quaintance and Tarris Reed Jr.

⚾ Greg’s Best Bets
Greg Peterson likes runs in Wednesday’s Phillies-Nationals matchup.

The Nationals entered Tuesday leading MLB in scoring at 5.4 runs per game and get a crack at Phillies starter Aaron Nola, who owns a 5.71 ERA and has allowed 1.8 home runs per nine innings.

Washington starter Miles Mikolas hasn’t been much better, posting a 5.47 ERA while allowing 1.9 home runs per nine innings. The Nationals bullpen also ranks 24th in MLB with a 4.70 ERA.

Greg’s conclusion: expect offense.

Best Bet: Phillies-Nationals Over 9
Greg’s projected total: 9.6
