⚽ World Cup Round 2 Begins
The World Cup moves into its second round of group-stage matches.
The U.S. doesn’t play until Friday against Australia, but doubt is beginning to emerge regarding the availability of Christian Pulisic (left calf).
Today’s menu:
Czechia vs. South Africa (Group A), Noon ET (Atlanta)
Switzerland vs. Bosnia (Group B), 3 ET (Los Angeles)
Canada vs. Qatar (Group B), 6 ET (Vancouver)
Mexico vs. South Korea (Group A), 9 ET (Guadalajara)
Nigel Seeley’s value play comes from what could be the best match of the day.
Both Mexico and South Korea won their openers.
Writes Nigel:
“The context of the group encourages positive football, as does Mexico playing on home soil, meaning they are likely to take the initiative and push forward in search of control. That approach could leave space behind, which plays into South Korea’s strengths on the break.”
(I allow Nigel to call it football since he is from the UK.)

Both Czechia and South Africa lost their openers, but Alex Blowers found some redeeming value in Czechia’s performance and has a parlay he likes.

I checked in with Alex after Cristiano Ronaldo lived down to his “head on a stick” review from Wednesday’s newsletter.
Portugal settled for a disappointing 1-1 draw with DR Congo and Ronaldo was a non-factor.
Alex wasn’t backing down:
“I’d say he’s moved beyond Old Yeller status. Knew he’d be found out against the bigger nations but not DR Congo.”

⛳ U.S. Open: Weather Report
Kevin Roth, VSiN’s favorite betting meteorologist, had this to say about today’s weather at Shinnecock Hills:
“This is going to be an absolutely brutal day of golf with winds gusting 40-50 mph for much of the day.”
The winds are expected to increase as the day progresses, making early tee times potentially more attractive than afternoon draws.
The forecast is severe enough that USGA officials have decided to slow down the greens between the morning and afternoon waves.
