FireKeepers Casino 400

The world keeps on turning in NASCAR, even as the drivers, teams, and fans continue to mourn the loss of Kyle Busch. The Cup Series has moved on to Michigan now for the FireKeepers Casino 400, the only stop at Michigan International Speedway for the season. This is a two-mile oval, so it’s a big track with a lot of speed and a lot of exciting racing.

This is the 15th race of 36 for the Cup Series season, which includes three road course races as mentioned, a street course in Coronado, a revamped playoff format, the second annual In-Season Challenge, and a whole lot of exciting Saturdays and Sundays for race fans and bettors.

2026 NASCAR Cup Series Winners and Standings

Denny Hamlin picked up his second points win of the season and third win overall last week at Nashville. It was a tough race with a lot of engine troubles, but Hamlin was able to emerge victorious after winning the All-Star Race a few weeks back. Hamlin closed the points gap with Tyler Reddick, who has five wins this season, to under 100 points as he picked up his seventh top-five finish.

With another repeat winner, we have eight race winners this season. Reddick has five, Hamlin has two, and Chase Elliott has two. The others to take a checkered flag are Ryan Blaney, Ty Gibbs, Carson Hocevar, Shane van Gisbergen, and Daniel Suarez.

Wins no longer guarantee entry into the playoffs, so the top 16 in points will make up who is in contention for the Cup Series Chase, which begins on September 6. As mentioned, Reddick still has a big lead over Hamlin, with Blaney, Elliott, and Gibbs as the others in the top five. Kyle Larson, Christopher Bell, Chris Buescher, Hocevar, and Suarez fill the top 10.

FireKeepers Casino 400 Winners

Perhaps Hamlin can go back-to-back, as he is the reigning winner here at Michigan. Reddick won a rain-delayed 2024 version and Buescher did the same back in 2023. Only five active drivers have wins here over the last 10 races, with Hamlin, Blaney, Buescher, Logano, and Reddick are those five racers.

Hamlin has six top-five finishes and nine top-10 finishes over his last 10 starts at Michigan. Gibbs has two top-fives and three top-10s in four starts on this track. Brad Keselowski and Larson have four top-five finishes in the last 10.
