College Basketball Best Bets Today:

A neat and tidy number of games for Friday night is merely a single hors d’oeuvre for Saturday. We have 10 games tonight. We have 147 games on the schedule tomorrow. Delaware State is playing a lower-division school on Saturday, so that means we have 315 of the nation’s 364 Division I basketball programs on the floor in the next 36ish hours. Not too shabby.

Tracking sheet is here. 2023-24 for reference is here.

DePaul Blue Demons at Georgetown Hoyas (-8.5, 141.5)

8 p.m. ET

The Hoyas have been a nice story to this point, as their 12 wins are more than they’ve had in any of the last three seasons and 13 would tie the number that they had during the abbreviated 2020-21 season. But, progress has slowed during Big East play. In five of their six games, Georgetown has been held to .987 points per possession or lower.

Obviously it is worth pointing out that DePaul is not on the level of Marquette, UConn, or St. John’s, but the Blue Demons are quite a bit improved themselves this season under Chris Holtmann. They’ve had some decent efforts on offense against conference opponents, but have really struggled badly on the defensive side of the ledger.

I do think that should improve, as opponents are shooting 43.3% on 3s against DePaul in Big East games. The Hoyas don’t take a ton of 3s and aren’t particularly good at them, shooting just 32.1% from deep for the season. And, while I expect DePaul’s defense to experience some positive regression, I’d expect Georgetown’s to go the opposite way, as they’ve allowed a 32.7% 3P%, but Big East opponents, who are mostly good at shooting, are only cashing in at 30.7% from 3.

DePaul is definitely a bit of a high-variance team with their reliance on the 3, but they should do well to neutralize Georgetown’s offensive rebounding prowess and also have the chance at getting a few more takeaways than usual with a Hoyas bunch that has turned it over nearly 24% of the time in Big East play.

DraftKings dropped to 8.5 at time of publish, but 9s were still available out there.

Pick: DePaul +8.5
