Woodhaven Stakes, Aqueduct, Race #4

Let’s start in New York to do something I generally avoid in this article: play a favorite. #3 Teddy’s Rocket returns from a winter break to try to get back to his winning ways. He was impressive winning on debut at Saratoga and jumped immediately into Grade 1 company, where he got a brutal trip. Clement is solid off the bench; there is pace to chase here, and he should improve. All systems go!

#1 Instability is the main threat on paper for trainer Chad Brown. He easily won his debut in Tampa, but has to step up here. If it were not for Teddy, this would be the top pick. There are a pair of speed horses that are interesting here, especially if one of them scratches.

#6 Longshoreman has been solid sprinting in four career starts and will try two turns for the first time. He was entered Friday and scratched so I expect him to go here.

#4 Blackmail is the bomb that would love to have the 6 scratch. He is quick early and digs in when challenged. The win may be out of reach, but at 15-1, he’s one I want to include in trifectas and superfectas.

Top 4:  3-1-6-4
The Bets: $50 Win #3

Roxelana Stakes, Churchill Downs, Race #9

With one week to the Derby, Churchill opens its doors for racing! Older fillies and mares will be the first to run for a stakes purse in the 9th on Saturday. #6 Zeitlos is as honest a horse as you can be. She shows up every time, especially when speed is signed on and that is the case today. She loves Churchill, four wins in seven starts, and gets Jose Ortiz back aboard today.

#4 Lotsandlotsofcandy is the speed of the speed in this spot, so if anyone can sneak away, it’s her. She’s another who loves the Churchill dirt with two wins and a second in three races.

#3 Mink’s Palace will be flying from off the pace while trying to defend her title here. She will get the setup and off the bench here last year. She’s an overlay at 8-1.

#7 Vincey Girl does not have a race on the page good enough to win here, but is 2nd off the layoff in a logical improvement spot. She should be closer to the pace than some of her competitors, which is a positive, but I’m not sure she can kick by and then hold off the rest. She’s an underneath horse for me.

Top 4: 6-4-3-7
The Bets: $50 Win #6
