Player props have become one of baseball’s most entertaining ways to bet, offering value well beyond the moneyline, run line, or game total. Each day, this column highlights the best opportunities on the board — from strikeouts and hits to total bases and pitcher outs recorded — using matchup data, recent form, and betting trends to identify edges. Keep reading for the top MLB player prop picks for August 27. Also, make sure you check out our live VSiN programming for more. Thursday Player Prop Best Bets
Below you’ll find my official plays on the player prop market for Thursday. These are the ones that make the VSiN Pro Picks page and count towards my season-long record. I’ll write three up per day, but I’ll add additional ones in an “Additional Best Bets” section. I go lighter on baseball than I do other sports. My MLB units are 50% of what my normal units are.
Jake Irvin Over 4.5 Strikeouts (-108) vs. Rockies
Rockies at Nationals – 1:05 pm ET
This season, Irvin is averaging only 4.8 strikeouts per game. However, when the righty gets to face bottom-10 teams in strikeout rate, he’s averaging 6.0 strikeouts per game. Well, this Rockies team is currently 23rd in MLB in K%, so this is a good opportunity for Irvin to miss some bats. I’ll also note that Irvin is averaging 5.6 strikeouts per game in afternoon starts.
Gerrit Cole Over 5.5 Strikeouts (-108 – 1.5 units) vs. Astros
Astros at Yankees – 7:05 pm ET
I’m not going to ladder Cole’s strikeouts up to seven or eight, but I am going a little bigger on the righty to reach six. He has just been awesome as a swing-and-miss pitcher over the last nine games, going Over 5.5 Ks in seven of those contests and averaging 7.3 strikeouts per game throughout that stretch. It’s just clear that Cole is starting to feel like himself, so I’ll take my chances with him doing a decent job getting through this Astros lineup.
Jacob Misiorowski Over 8.5 Strikeouts (+100) vs. Mets
Brewers at Mets – 7:10 pm ET
Misiorowski has had only six strikeouts in back-to-back starts, so we’re asking him to do something he hasn’t been doing lately. But the righty also happens to be the best swing-and-miss pitcher in baseball, and he’s averaging 9.2 strikeouts per game. That said, I’m not going to dock him for two low-strikeout outings. Also, Misiorowski has dominated high-strikeout lineups, averaging 9.6 Ks per game against bottom-10 teams in K%. That describes the Mets, who are 22nd in K% against righties.
Additional Picks
Landen Roupp Over 4.5 Strikeouts (+116) vs. Diamondbacks
