Monday Player Prop Best Bets
Below you’ll find my official plays on the player prop market for Monday. These are the ones that make the VSiN Pro Picks page and count towards my season-long record. I’ll write three up per day, but I’ll add additional ones in an “Additional Best Bets” section. I go lighter on baseball than I do other sports. My MLB units are 50% of what my normal units are.
Cade Cavalli Over 6.5 Strikeouts (-104) vs. Rockies
Rockies at Nationals – 6:45 pm ET
Cavalli comes into this game having recorded at least eight strikeouts in three consecutive games. He has also had at least seven strikeouts in seven of his last 11 starts. One of those games also happened to be against this Rockies team, as the righty had eight strikeouts against Colorado on July 22. Well, with Cavalli getting to face this Rockies team away from Coors Field, I like him to run through this lineup again. Colorado has a strikeout rate of 24.4% against righties over the last 10 games, so he’s getting them at the right time.
Jose Urquidy Over 3.5 Strikeouts (-135) vs. Rangers
Rangers at White Sox – 7:40 pm ET
The Rangers have a strikeout rate of 22.4% and whiff percentage of 26.1% against righties this season, so there’s a good chance Urquidy misses some bats tonight. The righty actually just had eight Ks in a start against the Cubs, so he comes into this one feeling pretty good about his swing-and-miss stuff. He’s also going to work inside a pitcher-friendly park, which should help him eat innings. Well, the longer he’s out there, the more likely it is he’ll strike out four hitters.
Kevin Gausman Over 4.5 Strikeouts (-104 – 1.5 units) & Alt Strikeouts (+180 – 0.5 units) vs. Diamondbacks
Cubs at Diamondbacks – 9:40 pm ET
Gausman has had an up-and-down season, but he has had at least five strikeouts in 13 of his last 18 games, and he has also done so in back-to-back outings. Tonight, the righty will be going up against a Diamondbacks team that does a great job of avoiding Ks, so this isn’t exactly a good matchup. However, a total of 4.5 just feels a little too low with the way Gausman is running lately.
