Player props have become one of baseball’s most entertaining ways to bet, offering value well beyond the moneyline, run line, or game total. Each day, this column highlights the best opportunities on the board — from strikeouts and hits to total bases and pitcher outs recorded — using matchup data, recent form, and betting trends to identify edges. Keep reading for the top MLB player prop picks for August 9. Also, make sure you check out our live VSiN programming for more. Our hosts and analysts will be all over the MLB, which is why it pays to be a VSiN Pro subscriber.

Sunday Player Prop Best Bets
Below you’ll find my official plays on the player prop market for Sunday. These are the ones that make the VSiN Pro Picks page and count towards my season-long record. I’ll write three up per day, but I’ll add additional ones in an “Additional Best Bets” section. I go lighter on baseball than I do other sports. My MLB units are 50% of what my normal units are.
Joey Cantillo Over 5.5 Strikeouts (-116) vs. White Sox
Guardians at White Sox – 2:10 pm ET
I’m essentially looking to fade high-K lineups every single evening, which is why I’m picking on the same teams in most of these columns. Well, the White Sox are one of those teams, and they come into this game with a strikeout rate of 24.% against lefties. Cantillo, who has had at least six strikeouts in seven of his last 11 games, should be able to do some damage with his swing-and-miss stuff today.
Michael McGreevy Over 3.5 Strikeouts (-122) vs. Rockies
Rockies at Cardinals – 2:15 pm ET
McGreevy has racked up at least five strikeouts in three of his last five starts, which is nice considering we only need four today. Realistically, McGreevy isn’t a swing-and-miss pitcher, but I like him to do decent work in the strikeouts column against this lineup. Colorado doesn’t have awful strikeout numbers on the season, but the team has a strikeout rate of 23.2% against righties over the last 20 games. For context, only six teams have a higher K% than that over the course of the entire season.
Andy Pages Over 1.5 Total Bases (+105) vs. Diamondbacks
Dodgers at Diamondbacks – 4:10 pm ET
Eduardo Rodriguez is having a fantastic season for Arizona, but I like the idea of grabbing Pages at plus-money odds in matchups with lefties. This season, Pages is averaging 1.8 total bases per game against southpaws, and he has had success against Rodriguez before. He’s 6 for 13 with a double and a homer against Rodriguez in his career, and I can easily see him coming through with an extra-base hit in this one.
Additional Picks
Jared Jones Over 5.5 Strikeouts (+116) vs. Mets
Kyle Schwarber Over 1.5 Total Bases (+110) vs. Blue Jays
Ryan Gusto Over 4.5 Strikeouts (-122 – 1.5 units) & Alt Strikeouts 6+ (+180 – 0.5 units) vs. Angels
Kumar Rocker Over 5.5 Strikeouts (+114) vs. Orioles
Ian Seymour Over 5.5 Strikeouts (+104) vs. Mariners
