Wednesday Player Prop Best Bets
Below you’ll find my official plays on the player prop market for Wednesday. These are the ones that make the VSiN Pro Picks page and count towards my season-long record. I’ll write three up per day, but I’ll add additional ones in an “Additional Best Bets” section. I go lighter on baseball than I do other sports. My MLB units are 50% of what my normal units are.
Cody Bradford Over 3.5 Strikeouts (-126) vs. Mariners
Rangers at Mariners – 4:10 pm ET
I haven’t had much success going to Bradford on strikeout props, which makes sense considering the lefty is averaging only 2.7 strikeouts per game this season. However, the Mariners are absolutely terrible when facing left-handed pitching. This year, they have a strikeout rate of 24.6% and whiff percentage of 26.9% against lefties. Both of those numbers are comfortably in the bottom half of MLB. This matchup simply doesn’t get better if you’re a southpaw looking for Ks.
Hunter Brown Over 4.5 Strikeouts (-128) vs. Phillies
Astros at Phillies – 6:40 pm ET
Brown had 10 strikeouts against the Mets on August 28, then he followed it up with seven strikeouts against the White Sox. He’s fully capable of missing bats against shaky lineups, and I like him to do exactly that against the Phillies. Of course, Philadelphia has some dangerous hitters. However, the Phillies also have a high strikeout rate (22.0%) against righties, so they’re completely burnable.
Davis Martin Over 4.5 Strikeouts (-111 – 1.5 units) & Alt Strikeouts 6+ (+197 – 0.5 units) vs. Pirates
Pirates at White Sox – 7:40 pm ET
Martin hasn’t been the same pitcher that he was early in the year, but I think he has a good start in him tonight. The Pirates have a strikeout rate of 23.4% and whiff percentage of 26.8% this season, putting them in the league’s bottom five in both. Well, Martin has had at least six strikeouts in three of his five starts against teams ranked 25th or worse in strikeout rate. The Pirates are 26th. The same is also true of his outings against teams with whiff percentages in the league’s bottom five, and Pittsburgh happens to be 29th.
