7:45 p.m. ET: Philadelphia Phillies (-115, 9) at St. Louis Cardinals
The Phillies (63-56) just dropped two of three against the Blue Jays but avoided the sweep, winning yesterday’s series finale 7-6 in extra innings as expensive -230 home favorites. On the other hand, the Cardinals (59-59) just took two of three against the Rockies, winning yesterday’s series finale 7-4 as -160 home favorites.
In tonight’s series opener, the Phillies send out righty Andrew Painter (1-8, 6.48 ERA) and the Cardinals counter with fellow righty Hunter Dobbins (2-2, 3.60 ERA).
This line opened with Philadelphia listed as a -115 road favorite and St. Louis a -105 home dog.
The public thinks this line is way too short and 71% of moneyline bets at DraftKings are rushing to the window to lay the short chalk with the Phillies.
However, despite this lopsided public support we’ve seen the Phillies remain relatively stagnant at -115, with a few books only inching up a few cents to -120.
This signals a bit of a sharp “line freeze” on the Cardinals, as the line has barely budged despite the public love for Philadelphia.
At DraftKings, St. Louis is taking in only 29% of moneyline bets but 76% of moneyline dollars. At Circa, the Cardinals are receiving 78% of moneyline bets and a massive 96% of moneyline dollars. Both books are showing a sharp “low bets, higher dollars” bet split in favor of the home dog.
St. Louis offers correlative betting value as a dog in a high total game (9), with the more expected runs scored leading to more variance and upset opportunities.
The Phillies are 3-13 in Painter’s 16 starts this season.
Meanwhile, Dobbins has allowed 3 earned runs or less in 7 of his 8 starts this season.
9:38 p.m. ET: Texas Rangers (-115, 8) at Los Angeles Angels
The Rangers (59-59) just took two of three against the Orioles but failed to complete the sweep, dropping yesterday’s series finale 10-5 as -125 home favorites. Meanwhile, the Angels (45-73) just dropped two of three against the Marlins, losing yesterday’s series finale 12-3 as +135 road dogs.
In tonight’s series opener, the Rangers start lefty MacKenzie Gore (6-9, 4.55 ERA) and the Angels tap fellow southpaw Reid Detmers (3-8, 4.12 ERA).
This line opened with Texas listed as a -125 road favorite and Los Angeles a +105 home dog.
The public sees an easy Rangers win and 75% of moneyline bets at DraftKings are laying the short chalk with Texas.
However, despite receiving such lopsided support we’ve seen the Rangers fall from -120 to -115. This signals sharp reverse line movement on the Angels, as the line has moved in their favor (+105 to +100) despite being the unpopular play.
At DraftKings, the Angels are only taking in 25% of moneyline bets but 81% of moneyline dollars. At Circa, Los Angeles is only receiving 25% of moneyline bets and 52% of moneyline dollars. Both books are showing a sharp contrarian “low bets, higher dollars” bet discrepancy in favor of the home team.
Short home dogs +120 or less off a loss receiving line movement in their favor, like the Angels here, are 104-100 (51%) with a 4% ROI since 2025.
Gore has posted a 5.79 ERA on the road compared to 3.27 at home.
On the other hand, Detmers has allowed 2 earned runs or less in three of his last four starts.
The Angels are 4-2 against the Rangers this season.
9:40 p.m. ET: Milwaukee Brewers (-115, 7) at San Diego Padres
The Brewers (74-44) just took two of three against the Twins, winning yesterday’s series finale 4-3 in extra innings as hefty -260 home favorites. Similarly, the Padres (62-57) just took two of three against the Astros, winning yesterday’s series finale 7-2 as -115 home favorites.
In tonight’s series opener, the Brewers hand the ball to righty Logan Henderson (6-1, 2.70 ERA) and the Padres turn to fellow righty Casey Mize (4-7, 3.40 ERA).
This line opened at roughly a pick’em, with both sides listed around -110 odds.
Sharps have quietly sided with the Brewers at a coin-flip price, pushing Milwaukee up from a -110 road pick’em to a -115 road favorite, with some shops touching as high as -120.
At DraftKings, the Brewers are receiving 72% of moneyline bets and 90% of moneyline dollars. At Circa, Milwaukee is taking in 84% of moneyline bets and a whopping 94% of moneyline dollars. Both books are showing a “low bets, higher dollars” one-way Pro and Joe split in favor of the road team.
Non-division road favorites off a win receiving line movement in their favor, like the Brewers here, are 87-52 (63%) with a 7% ROI this season.
When both teams are above .500, as is the case here, the team receiving line movement in their direction had gone 166-107 (61%) with an 11% ROI this season.
Milwaukee offers correlative betting value as a favorite in a low total game (7), with the fewer amount of expected runs scored more likely to come from the “better” team who is expected to win.
The Brewers have the better bats, hitting .253 with a .337 OBP and 585 runs scored compared to the Padres hitting .237 with a .313 OBP and 504 runs scored.
Milwaukee is 8-0 in Henderson’s last eight starts. He has allowed 2 earned runs or less in 9 of his 10 starts this season.
Meanwhile, Mize just got lit up in his Padres debut, allowing 8 earned runs in 3.1 innings pitched in a 10-4 loss to the Diamondbacks.
