Another weekend on the diamond wraps up with Sunday Night Baseball on NBC and Peacock, as the New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies finish up their series with the Yankees in search of a sweep. It has been a low-scoring event thus far, as New York took down a 1-0 win on Friday behind Cam Schlittler and won 3-1 on Saturday thanks to a dominant effort from Ryan Weathers and the bullpen. After a bullpen game on Saturday, the Phillies send out one of their aces, Cristopher Sanchez, while the Yankees counter with Will Warren.

The Yankees sent out the AL Cy Young favorite on Friday night in the series lid lifter and now the Phillies deploy the second favorite in the NL Cy Young market. Jacob Misiorowski and his 105 mph arm are the odds-on favorite, but Sanchez could close the gap with a strong showing tonight or if Misiorowski continues to be limited a bit by the Brewers, who have a big lead in the NL Central.
Without an alien like Misiorowski, Sanchez would have an extremely strong case, as he’s pitched to a 2.65 ERA with a 3.29 xERA and a 2.66 FIP. What is wild is that he actually had lower numbers across the board last season when he finished second in Cy Young voting to Paul Skenes. A .338 BABIP is partially to blame this season for Sanchez’s minor uptick, but he’s also counteracted that with a career-best 27.5% K% and his second-lowest BB% at 4.5%.
Warren has a 4.00 ERA on the dot with a 4.49 xERA and a 4.11 FIP over his 99 innings of work. As the weather ramped up towards the better hitting conditions of the spring and summer, Warren started to fade a bit. From March 28 to May 1, Warren had a 2.39 ERA with a 2.76 FIP over 37.2 innings. In 12 starts since then, he has a 4.99 ERA with a 5.08 xERA and a 4.93 FIP.
Lefties have posed a problem for Warren, as he’s allowed a .264/.329/.454 slash with just a 45/20 K/BB ratio and nine of his 14 homers. In that respect, it could be a good day for some of the Phillies’ better bats, including Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper. The southpaw Sanchez has held lefties to a .136/.149/.174 slash with a 50/2 K/BB ratio. Righties, though, are batting .297/.342/.437. That means that there could be some good player prop opportunities tonight.
The Phillies could use a good night against a right-hander. They are 27th in wOBA at .283 in the month of July with just a .211/.283/.361 slash line and a 74 wRC+, meaning they are 26% below league average in that split. Similarly, the Yankees have been putrid against lefties, slashing just .188/.242/.324 with a .248 wOBA and a 55 wRC+. With those ugly splits in mind, the Under 8 is the play tonight.

Total Bases H2H: Paul Goldschmidt (-122) over Trea Turner
Goldschmidt has slaughtered left-handed pitching this season with a .333/.415/.657 slash, a .452 wOBA, and a 197 wRC+. Turner’s having a down season anyway, but he’s batting .254/.291/.416 against righties with a .307 wOBA and a 90 wRC+. Righties are batting nearly .300 on the season against Sanchez with a .437 SLG, so Goldy has a better chance at doing some damage.
