Tuesday Betting Recaps
Welcome to our daily recap of the sports betting results from the night before.
Regular “Tuley’s Takes Today” readers will realize that starting today we’ve split our daily column (that has been running for the past 19 month since September 2021) into two separate pieces: this FREE article where I put on my old-time reporters’ hat with my “press” card as we recap the betting action from the night before and update league-wide ATS stats in the various sports, and then another one where I put on my handicappers’ hat (just one of my many VSiN or other baseball caps) and offer my Best Bets on each day’s wagering menu.
Links to both articles should be found in VSiN’s FREE daily newsletter (subscribers should already be receiving that in their inbox each morning; newbies can sign up for free at https://vsin.com/newsletter/) or on the VSiN.com website, though I advise my regular readers to also bookmark my dedicated VSiN page at https://vsin.com/news/dave-tuley-columns/ to easily find these columns each day.
So, without further ado, here’s my recaps from last night’s betting action as chalk dominated in the NBA playoffs while dogs swept in the NHL on the second day of the Stanley Cup tournament.
NBA: Home faves went 3-0 SU & ATS as the Celtics (-10) beat the Hawks 119-106 (game stayed Under the betting total of 231 points) to take a 2-0 series lead while the Cavaliers (-6) beat the Knicks 107-90 (stayed Under 214.5) and Suns (-8) beat Clippers 123-109 (went Over 227.5) to even those series at 1-1. Unders led 2-1.
More NBA: Faves took an 8-5 SU and ATS lead so far in the 1st round with Tuesday’s sweep. Home teams improved to 9-4 SU and ATS (the difference due to the Kings winning as short home underdogs vs. the Warriors on Monday night). Unders improved to 8-5 (12-7 if including the play-in tournament). The “zig-zag theory” (aka “loser of the last”) went 2-1 ATS with the Cavaliers and Suns winning and covering after losing Game 1s, but still just 2-3 ATS after starting 0-2 ATS on Monday.
NHL: Road underdogs swept 4-0 on Tuesday with upsets by Rangers (+110 in 5-1 win at Devils), Lightning (+135 in 7-3 win at Maple Leafs), Jets (+135 in 5-1 win at Golden Knights) and Kraken (+175 in 3-1 win at Avalanche). Dogs and road teams have now taken a 6-2 lead after the Game 1s the last two nights. Overs went 3-1 Tuesday but back to .500 overall at 4-4 after Unders had gone 3-1 on Monday’s opening night of the playoffs.
MLB: Faves/dog split 8-8 on Tuesday with the Giants-Marlins game closing pick-’em. The biggest upsets were by the Diamondbacks (+155 in 8-7 win at Cardinals), Brewers (+140 in 6-5, 11-inning win at Mariners) and Angels (+135 in 5-2 win at Yankees). Road teams went 11-6 while Unders led 10-7. On the season, faves lead 159-101 with 4 PKs; Road teams took a 134-130 lead. Overs dipped to 139-114-11 (54.9%).
