Rodgers finally a member of the New York Jets after weeks of trade talks

The long-awaited trade of Aaron Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers to the New York Jets has been finalized just a few days in advance of the 2023 NFL Draft. The deal includes a first-round pick swap, two other 2023 draft picks, and a conditional pick based on the health of Rodgers.

It was clear for a while that a split was coming between Rodgers and the Packers and he made it known that the Jets were his preference. In anticipation for Rodgers’s arrival, the Jets brought in his old offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett and also brought in some former teammates, including WR Allen Lazard.

Now, the deal is a reality and the odds markets can settle in after plenty of speculation and trade rumors. Most of the line movement had already taken place since the trade was going to happen at some point.

Jets and Packers complete Rodgers trade

Here are the reported terms of the deal:

To Jets: Aaron Rodgers, No. 15, No. 170 picks in 2023 NFL Draft
To Packers: No. 13, No. 42, No. 207 picks in 2023 NFL Draft; 2024 second-round pick that will become a first-round pick if Rodgers plays at least 65% of the team’s offensive plays

The pick swap this season improves Green Bay’s standing by two spots, while the Packers also pick up at least one second-round pick and most likely two of them. New York gets the franchise quarterback it had been seeking for however long Rodgers decides to play until he retires. The Jets also did well to retain a first-round pick in this trade, since the initial rumored cost of Rodgers seemed rather high.

Super Bowl 2024 betting odds

The betting markets had been expecting this trade to be finalized for a while. The Jets were +1400 at DraftKings Sportsbook to win Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas on February 11, 2024 after moving down initially when it was announced that Rodgers would not return to Green Bay and wanted to be in New York.

The Jets did move down from +250 to +225 to win the AFC East as one noteworthy line adjustment. Their season win total is 9.5 with the Over juiced at -145. The 2023-24 NFL schedule will come out in May and that will lead to some more movement in that market once we see bye weeks and travel spots.

It is also rumored that the Jets will be getting a lot of primetime games, so look for some Monday Night Football matchups for them that could alter their win total projections.

The Jets are Yes -150 (No +120) to make the playoffs.

As for the Packers, they are +5000 to win Super Bowl LVIII, a price that was adjusted down quite significantly when all of the Rodgers trade talks began. Jordan Love will have the first crack to take over at quarterback, but the Packers do have some more draft day trade ammo now.
