Points were aplenty in NFL Week 1.
The Chiefs closed out the opening week Monday night with a 31-10 victory over the tackling-challenged Broncos.
Kansas City became the 11th team to score 30+ points in Week 1, tied for the second most since 1970. Only 1986 had more, with 12.
And the bigger number: 791 points were scored across Week 1, tied with 2012 for the most since the NFL-AFL merger.
Even though Chiefs-Broncos stayed Under 42.5, Overs finished 9-6-1. Compare that with last season, when Week 1 Unders went 12-4.
That’s a lot of numbers. But what does it mean for Week 2?
I went to Circa Sports NFL risk manager Jamey Pileggi to see how he was approaching the totals market after the scoring explosion.
“The market adjusted on a few games (Bears/Vikings had huge adjustment), but I personally didn’t want to overreact after one week and leaned under since I thought it was overcorrected.”
The Bears and Vikings combined for 98 points Sunday. Their Week 2 total is 49.5.

This was the first 16-game NFL week in which every game had a different point differential:
1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 12, 13, 14, 17, 18, 20, 21, 22 and 24.
