😴 The Great Sleep Experiment

The hot topic one night over Labor Day weekend with Circa owner Derek Stevens and his crew?

Sleep.

More specifically, which team has figured out the best way to deal with the 17-hour time difference before Thursday’s Rams-49ers game in Australia.

The 49ers arrived a week before the game, giving their bodies time to adjust to Melbourne.

The Rams are doing the opposite. They’re leaving tonight, essentially trying not to adjust at all.

And there’s some fascinating logic behind Sean McVay’s plan.

Thursday’s game kicks off at 10:35 a.m. Friday in Melbourne. But if the Rams can keep their bodies on Pacific time, it will feel like 5:35 p.m. Thursday — right in the late-afternoon/early-evening window when athletic performance tends to peak.

The tradeoff? The Rams will be playing shortly after a 16-hour flight.

But the more I looked into this, the more I wondered whether we were talking about the wrong game.

What happens when they come home?

The 49ers will have spent a week shifting their body clocks toward Australia — and then have to shift them right back. The Rams are hoping they never really leave Pacific time.

And look at the Week 2 schedule:

Sunday, Sept. 20: Dolphins (+10.5) at 49ers

Monday, Sept. 21: Giants (+8.5) at Rams

The Rams even get an extra day to recover.

I’m not ready to bet Miami +10.5 based on somebody’s circadian rhythm.

But it seems worth watching.

📊 Drake Maye Over 229.5?

VSiN product guru Jason Latus has fired up two resources for NFL player props, and I couldn’t help but notice they’re both pointing in the same direction on Drake Maye.

Our Opta AI projections have Maye at 253.34 passing yards against Seattle, well above his current DraftKings prop of 229.5.

Then there’s the VSiN NFL Prop Analyzer, which lets you compare the current DraftKings number against a player’s previous performances.

At 229.5 passing yards, Maye has gone Over in 17 of his last 25 games.

Of course, he wasn’t facing the Seattle defense every time.

🏈 T-Shoe Wants a Penn State Do-Over

Tyler Shoemaker faded Penn State in Week 1.

He’d like that one back.

“I instantly regretted it once the Nittany Lions went up 17-0 before Marshall got off the bus.”

Now T-Shoe is coming back the other way against Temple.

Penn State averaged 6.8 yards per play in the opener, including 12 yards per pass attempt, while holding Marshall to just 1.69 yards per carry and 3.68 yards per pass attempt.

The T-Shoe Index makes Penn State -31. His market-estimated formula has it -26.5.

The actual number?

T-Shoe’s Bet: Penn State -23.5 (play to -24)
