Jaguars vs. Ravens: Rookie QB Joe Fagnano Gets First Start as Betting Splits Diverge

🏈 Meet the Ravens’ New Starting Quarterback

Joe Fagnano, you’re up.

Ravens coach Jesse Minter confirmed Tuesday that the undrafted rookie will make his first NFL start Thursday night against the Jaguars.

Fagnano wasn’t supposed to be in this position. But Lamar Jackson injured his thumb on the first offensive snap Sunday against Buffalo, Tyler Huntley is injured, too, and suddenly the rookie was running Baltimore’s offense.

His NFL debut: 10 completions in 21 attempts, 91 yards and an interception. Now he gets a short week to prepare for Jacksonville.

Jacksonville is a 10-point favorite at Circa Sports. Here’s an interesting early betting trend: Circa and DraftKings are seeing very different action on Thursday’s game, even though both have the Jaguars favored by 10.

At DraftKings: 82% of tickets and 74% of the money are on Jacksonville.

At Circa: Just 41% of tickets and 38% of the money are on Jacksonville.

One caveat: It’s still early. Still, it’s an intriguing contrast between sportsbooks with different customer bases.

🏈 MACtion: Is the Wrong Team Favored?

Eastern Michigan is a 1.5-point favorite over Central Michigan on Wednesday. But Steve Makinen’s Effective Play-by-Play Ratings make Central Michigan a 9.2-point favorite.

That is a 10.7-point gap between the ratings and the market.

Adam Burke sees reasons to question the line, too. Central Michigan is 1-3 in MAC play, compared with Eastern Michigan’s 3-2, but the Chippewas have played a tougher schedule and own better conference yards-per-play numbers on both sides of the ball.
