WNBA Picks

We had a solid 2-1 night in the WNBA, cashing the Under in the Sun/Sparks game and the Aces/Dream, but we failed to get the cover with the Liberty as they lost outright to the Sky. Tonight, we have just two games to choose from: the Washington Mystics host the Toronto Tempo, and the Golden State Valkyries host the Minnesota Lynx. Here are the TSI projections for Wednesday, August 19th.

Washington Mystics (-10.5) vs Toronto Tempo, O/U 168.5

After winning seven games in a row, the Mystics cooled off a bit and are just 1-2 in their last three games, playing 1.5 points below their season average in that span; however, it should be noted that two of the games were on the road and that their last three home games have been twelve points above their season average. Toronto is on a back-to-back after losing to Indiana at home last night and now travels to Washington to take on a rested Mystics team who’s been dominant at home. The Tempo are playing right at their season average, and while the injury report hasn’t been submitted at the time of posting this, Brittney Sykes is flirting with a return to the lineup from her foot injury sustained earlier in the year. TSI projects Mystics -7 with a total of 173.5, but given the back-to-back spot for Toronto, the rest for Washington, and the recent home/road splits favoring Washington by 20+, I’m going to go against TSI here and back the Mystics at home.

Bet: Mystics -10.5 or better

Golden State Valkyries (+2.5) vs Minnesota Lynx, O/U 164.5

Golden State is playing 3.5 points better than their season average over the last three games, and they’ve won six straight games, averaging 89 points per game over the last six – up from 83 on the season. Minnesota has won four straight but is playing 1.5 points below their season average over the last three; however, they’ve been excellent on the road lately, playing five points better than their season average over their last three road games, winning by an average of 94-80. TSI projects Minnesota -2.5 with a total of 164, so there’s really no angle to be had here. This should be a great game, but I’m going to pass.
