WNBA Picks
We’ve now rattled off three straight WNBA winners after the Connecticut Sun team total Under 68.5 cashed reasonably comfortably yesterday. We’ve got another two-game slate on Thursday, featuring the New York Liberty hosting the Golden State Valkyries and the Phoenix Mercury hosting the Washington Mystics (again). Here are the TSI projections for Thursday, August 27th.
New York Liberty (-2.5) vs Golden State Valkyries, O/U 162.5
New York has won 10 of its last 13 games and has been three points better than its season average over its last three home games – not including the decimation of a severely shorthanded Aces team. Golden State is on a back-to-back after making short work of the Connecticut Sun last night, and they’re now playing four points better than their season average over the last three games as they gear up for a playoff run. TSI projects Liberty -1.5 with a total of 161, but this is kind of a bad spot for Golden State. They’ve played four road games in the last week and are on the aforementioned back-to-back. I think New York wins at home, and I’m going to lay the points with the Liberty.
Bet: Liberty -2.5 (Play to -3.5)
Phoenix Mercury (+3.5) vs Washington Mystics, O/U 166.5
These teams just played a couple games ago, with Washington winning by ten on the road. Phoenix has maybe quit on the year, as they’ve been five points below their season average over the last six games. Washington is playing 3.5 points better than their season average, so they’re trending the opposite way after securing a playoff spot. TSI projects Mystics -1 with a total of 177, but TSI can’t properly account for the lack of motivation here for Phoenix – and arguably for Washington now that they’re locked into the playoffs. I’m going to pass because there’s too much uncertainty here, but I’d lean Washington.
