Toyota/Save Mart 350
The NASCAR Cup Series In-Season Challenge begins this week with the Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Sonoma Raceway, as we have a second straight non-traditional race. Last week’s road course race in Coronado was a first. Racing at Sonoma is not. This is an annual stop for the Cup Series racers.
The In-Season Challenge is a recently-added wrinkle to the calendar. The prize for this is $1 million and it is a single-elimination tournament with 32 eligible drivers. Ty Gibbs is the reigning winner.

2026 NASCAR Cup Series Winners and Standings
We had a new winner and a very shocking winner at that in Corey Heim, who is not actually eligible for the postseason because he is a part-time driver. Bubba Wallace was second and Kyle Larson was third. Most of the other drivers who are high up in the standings didn’t really do a whole lot at Coronado, which is not a big surprise given the rarity of road courses.
But, with Heim as the winner, we now have nine different race winners for this season. Tyler Reddick has five, Denny Hamlin has four, Chase Elliott has two, and the rest of the winners have only driven to Victory Lane once. They are Heim, Gibbs, Ryan Blaney, Carson Hocevar, Shane van Gisbergen, and Daniel Suarez.
Another week, another bite into Reddick’s lead by Hamlin. The lead, which was in triple digits just a few weeks ago, is down to just eight points now. Reddick (716) and Hamlin (708) are the only drivers with more than 600 points. Blaney, who has five straight top-10 finishes and six in his last seven, is third with 583 points. Larson and Gibbs round out the top five.
Elliott, Chris Buescher, Suarez, Hocevar, and Chase Briscoe fill out the top 10.
Wins no longer guarantee entry into the playoffs, so the top 16 in points will make up who is in contention for the Cup Series Chase, which begins on September 6.
Toyota/Save Mart 350 Winners
SVG is the reigning winner of this race, with Larson, Martin Truex Jr., and Suarez the other winners on the current layout, which is 1.99 miles. van Gisbergen is 1-for-1 in his career starts at Sonoma. Sadly, as the circuit continues to mourn Kyle Busch, this could have been a good track for him, as he has the highest average finish of points drivers this season.
Elliott is next, having an average finish of 10.2 over his nine Sonoma starts. Larson is a two-time winner here. With Truex no longer racing and Busch’s tragic passing, there are only three active race winners in the field.
