⚽ USA Advances. Next Up: Belgium.
The USA is moving on.
Next up: Belgium on Monday in Seattle.
One interesting betting note: the market isn’t in complete agreement. Circa has the match as essentially a toss-up, while DraftKings lists Team USA as a slight -130 favorite to advance, with Belgium at +105.
Neither team had an easy path to the Round of 16.
The Americans beat Bosnia and Herzegovina 2-0 Wednesday night despite playing the final 25-plus minutes with 10 men after Folarin Balogun’s red card in the 64th minute. Team USA’s leading scorer will miss Monday’s match.
Belgium needed an even more dramatic escape, rallying with two goals in the final five minutes before surviving on a controversial penalty kick in extra time to eliminate Senegal 3-2.
England survived its own scare, beating DR Congo 2-1 behind two second-half goals from Harry Kane. The Three Lions (-145) will meet Mexico (+125) on Sunday in Mexico City.
Today’s Round of 32 (Circa odds to advance):
3 p.m. ET
Spain (-700) vs. Austria (+520)
7 p.m. ET
Portugal (-265) vs. Croatia (+225)
11 p.m. ET
Switzerland (-200) vs. Algeria (+175)
Today’s featured match caught the attention of both Alex Blowers and Nigel Seeley.
Alex likes Spain’s defense.
“Spain’s defensive record speaks for itself — three clean sheets across 270 minutes of group-stage football. The concern has been the attack, not the back line.”
👉 Alex’s Spain-Austria Best Bet →
Nigel notes Spain’s last 13 victories have all come with halftime/fulltime leads—but that’s not where he’s putting his money today.
👉 Nigel’s Spain-Austria Best Bet →
Wednesday Postscript
Now we know why Nigel says he rarely bets on England. His Win-to-Nil ticket disappeared early.
Alex’s USA Win & Under 3.5 Goals (+100) got there.
👉 Tomorrow’s World Cup picks are already live →

🏀 Celtics Shake Up The East
Day 2 of NBA free agency delivered an even bigger surprise than Day 1.
The Celtics stunned the league by trading Jaylen Brown to Philadelphia for Paul George and draft picks.
Sportsbooks reacted immediately.
NBA title odds
Boston: +700 → +1000
Philadelphia: +7000 → +2500
VSiN senior editor Zach Cohen believes Boston’s outlook isn’t quite as bleak as the betting market suggests.
“George still has a lot to offer. There is also a slight chance this is an all-in bet on Payton Pritchard.”
The Lakers also continued preparing for life after LeBron by acquiring rim-protecting center Walker Kessler.
“The Lakers look much better on paper than they did last year, and Doncic has done much more with much worse. They’re back in the mix in the West.”
