WNBA Picks
Welcome to August! We closed out July nicely with another 2-1 night in the WNBA, so we’re 5-2 since the All-Star break, and we’ll look to continue the momentum today as the Chicago Sky will host the Las Vegas Aces at 1 p.m. ET, followed by Phoenix Mercury hosting the New York Liberty at 3 p.m. ET. Here are the TSI projections for each game.
Chicago Sky (+6.5) vs Las Vegas Aces, O/U 183.5
Chicago is playing some of its best basketball of the season right now, eclipsing its season average by about 2.5 points over its last three games while averaging 93.5 points per game over its last six. The Aces have won three of their last four games and are playing about 1.5 points above their season average right now. Chicago has been seven points better at home but the Aces have been 5.5 points better on the road, so we should see both teams at their best today. TSI projects Aces -9.5 with a total of 190.5, so I like the Aces and Over here. A’ja Wilson has been on a tear since returning, and both teams have been getting in some very high-scoring games, so I’m going to ride that wave.
Bet: Aces -6.5 (play to -7.5)
Bet: Over 183.5 (Play to 185)
Phoenix Mercury (+2.5) vs New York Liberty, O/U 176.5
Phoenix has been five points better than its season average lately, thanks to defensive efforts that have allowed just 78 points per game over the last three games. I don’t know what’s happened to New York, but they’re barely above .500 after being the consensus preseason favorite to win the title. They have won three out of four games, but are giving up 100 points per game in the process. TSI projects New York -2 with a total of 181.5. I don’t have a strong play here since the projections are close and the Phoenix defense has been so good lately I don’t want to play the Over.
