Wurth 400

Usually everything is bigger in Texas, but that’s not the case with the Wurth 400 compared to last week’s race at Talladega. But, based on the big crash from last week, this is a big race this week as many drivers are looking to bounce back from disappointing finishes. This is the one and only race at Texas Motor Speedway and the last one in the Lone Star State after the stop in Austin earlier this season.

This is the 11th race of 36 for the Cup Series season, which includes three road course races as mentioned, a street course in Coronado, a revamped playoff format, the second annual In-Season Challenge, and a whole lot of exciting Saturdays and Sundays for race fans and bettors.

2026 NASCAR Cup Series Winners and Standings

It feels like a surprise when Tyler Reddick doesn’t win a 2026 race, but we got our second big surprise of the season with Carson Hocevar’s first career win. Two weeks ago, Ty Gibbs secured his first win. It took well over 100 races for Gibbs to get his own, while Hocevar secured his in his 91st Cup Series start. The win also moved him up into the top 10 in points.

The other race winners are Ryan Blaney, Denny Hamlin, and Chase Elliott. Reddick’s lead is 110 points after finishing 14th last week, his second-lowest finish of the season. Hamlin finished 15th last week, but still sits second in points with 374. Blaney was part of the big crash and wound up 37th, but is still third in overall points. Elliott and Gibbs round out the top five, as Elliott moved from sixth to fourth from last week with a top-five finish.

The rest of the top 10 features Kyle Larson, Chris Buescher, Hocevar, Christopher Bell, and Brad Keselowski. Buescher’s second-place finish at Talladega was his best finish and first top-five finish of the season. Bell led the most laps, but finished 17th.

The postseason format has changed and so has the qualification, as winning a race isn’t guaranteed to result in a playoff spot. The top 16 in points get in and there are no rounds in the postseason now, so it’s just a sprint to see who can accumulate the most points.

Wurth 400 Winners

The last repeat winner in this race was Kevin Harvick, who won three straight from 2017-19. Since then, there have been six different race winners – Kyle Busch, Larson, Reddick, Byron, Elliott, and Joey Logano, so a lot of the usual suspects. It’s a standard-issue 1.5-mile track, so that’s hardly a surprise.

Logano actually has five top-five finishes here in his last 10 starts to lead all active drivers. Blaney is next up with four of them. Six different drivers have at least three top-five finishes. Even though this is a 1.5-mile track, not a single active driver has an average finishing position in the single digits over the last 10 races here, so we’ll have to see how this week plays out.
