🏀 College Hoops Are Brewin’
Baseball may linger for a few more days, but the road to March Madness begins Sunday.
I had a sneak peek at the VSiN College Basketball Betting Guide, which will be available to VSiN Pro subscribers Thursday.
Zach Cohen offers his strategy for betting NCAA championship futures. He looks for value at different levels of the market: an overlooked powerhouse, a mid-tier contender with upside and a sleeper capable of making a run.
As Zach explains, the idea isn’t necessarily to identify the eventual champion. It’s to find a strong price on a team capable of making a run that creates hedging opportunities as the tournament unfolds.
Zach identifies three teams worth considering, including UCLA at 70-1. The Bruins have added 6-foot-9 newcomer Nikola Kusturica, one of the nation’s highest-paid players.
Meanwhile, Matt Youmans has ranked his top 50 teams and makes his preseason call on who’s No. 1: Duke (+600 at Circa) or Florida (+650)?
And after reading Zach’s Best Bets, I checked to see where Matt had UCLA: No. 21.
Make sure you get your copy Thursday.
Alas, I haven’t seen anything that answers the existential question: Who will God root for in the season opener?
It’s Notre Dame vs. Villanova at 9:30 a.m. ET Sunday in Rome.
We’ll assume the pope will be rooting for Villanova, his alma mater.

🏈 Wrong Team Favored?
The oddsmakers have Middle Tennessee favored Wednesday night. Steve Makinen’s numbers say it should be the other way around.
Middle Tennessee is a 2.5-point favorite over Kennesaw State, but Steve’s Effective Play-by-Play Ratings make the Owls a 3.6-point favorite.
His forecasted ratings go even further, projecting Kennesaw State as a 9.3-point favorite — an 11.8-point difference from the betting line.
And Steve’s betting systems identify additional trends working against Middle Tennessee.
But Adam Burke sees this matchup differently. He’s concerned about Kennesaw State’s offensive limitations and sees an opportunity for Middle Tennessee’s defense.
Adam previews both Wednesday Conference USA games, including Jacksonville State at New Mexico State, and explains where he sees the best betting opportunity.

🏈 Colts Wave the White Flag
The NFL trade deadline is still two weeks away, but the Colts appear to be getting a head start on next season.
Indianapolis (2-5) traded eight-time Pro Bowl guard Quenton Nelson to the Seahawks and defensive tackle DeForest Buckner to the 49ers on Tuesday, receiving draft picks in return.
The betting market reacted quickly. The Colts started the day as 7.5-point underdogs against Jacksonville. Following the trades, the line moved to Jaguars -10.
“Colts are clearly packing it in and looking toward next year,” said Jamey Pileggi, Risk Manager at Circa Sports.
And that could have major implications for Circa Survivor.
Of the 660 entries still alive, 412 have Jacksonville available for Week 8.
Will the Colts’ fire sale make the Jaguars the obvious choice? Or will their newfound popularity create another dangerous Survivor decision?

The Rays rallied for two runs in the bottom of the 12th inning Tuesday night to beat the Brewers 4-3 and avoid a World Series sweep.
Game 5 is Wednesday night in Tampa.
