This much we know: Going from four teams to 12 in the College Football Playoff isn’t going to end gridiron injustice in our lifetimes.

Heading into conference championship weekend, the CFP selection committee rankings on Tuesday provided the final clues for Sunday’s bracket announcement.

To simplify:

>Oregon, Penn State, Ohio State, Texas, Georgia, Tennessee, Notre Dame and Indiana are locks. That’s eight.

>The winners of the Big 12 and Mountain West title games are in. That’s two more, but no more than two.

>SMU is on the bubble if it loses to Clemson in the ACC championship because the committee seems hellbent on ensuring that 3-loss Alabama makes it. That’s three teams to make two for a total of 12.

No room at the inn for Miami, Ole Miss, South Carolina and anyone else you want to make an argument for.

VSiN.com senior editor Zach Cohen interprets the latest rankings.

VSiN.com managing editor Adam Burke has posted his breakdowns and predictions for every title game. See links below.

NFL opinions for your consideration . . .

Michael Lombardi: Earlier in the year, I would have said that the Lions have the Super Bowl look. Now, the Philadelphia Eagles have emerged, improved, redefined themselves, and have health on their side.

>>More from Michael.

Adam ScheinGreen Bay’s defense and run game have been terrific, and Matt LaFleur is an excellent coach. Weird things happen in the division on Thursday nights. I’ll take the 3.5 with the Packers.

>>More in the Schein 9.

Mike SomichSeattle is not consistent enough from down to down and they do not execute in the red zone, but with a top-10 defense, I believe the Seahawks still have their best football in front of them.

>>More from Mike, including his early week bet.
