🏀 NBA Playoffs: Game 5 pressure
Well, the Suns didn’t avoid a sweep from the Thunder, but at least Phoenix covered. OKC (-11.5) won 131-122 and will play the Lakers-Rockets winner.
The Celtics and Spurs have a chance to advance tonight.
Tuesday’s NBA menu:
76ers (+11.5) at Celtics, 7 ET (ESPN). Total: 214.5. BOS leads 3-1.
Hawks (+6.5) at Knicks, 8 ET (NBC/Peacock). Total: 213.5. Series tied 2-2.
Blazers (+11.5) at Spurs, 9:30 ET (ESPN). Total: 215.5. SAS leads 3-1.

🧠 Zach Cohen’s NBA Report: Magic One Win Away
Detroit was a 3.5-point favorite in Game 4. The Pistons, who were the best team in the Eastern Conference during the regular season, were in a must-win spot. There were also reasons to believe Detroit would figure out a way to get the job done, as the team looked much better in Games 2 and 3 than it did in Game 1. However, despite the fact that the Pistons led by as many as 11 at one point, the Magic came away with a 94-88 win — and Jamal Cain sent Jalen Duren to the Shadow Realm with one of the best in-game dunks you’ll ever see.
Orlando’s now on the verge of becoming the seventh No. 8 seed in NBA history to upset a No. 1. I expect to see some fight from the Pistons in Game 5, so this series might not be over yet. But the Magic have genuinely looked like a better — and more physical — team through four games. And honestly, this is what many NBA analysts expected from Orlando heading into the year.
It should, however, be noted that Franz Wagner wasn’t able to finish Game 4 due to a calf injury. Let’s hope that’s nothing serious, as the Magic aren’t going anywhere without him. Wagner is a tremendous two-way player. He’s set to undergo an MRI on Tuesday.
Nuggets Force Game 6
I wrote about Denver as a +132 play to win the series in my Monday best bets column at VSiN.com, and I also hit on it again on Hardwood Handicappers. For as bad as the Nuggets looked in Games 1 through 4, it’s just not easy for a team to overcome the loss of a player like Anthony Edwards. And having to also play without Donte DiVincenzo only adds to the challenge.
Well, in Game 5, Denver blew the doors off Minnesota, winning with ease in a much better two-way performance. The 11.5-point spread in that game also suggests the Nuggets will be comfortable favorites in Game 6, which is why I liked the value on Denver at plus-money odds. It seems rather clear that the oddsmakers expect a series win for the Nuggets. Though it would be nice if Aaron Gordon can go in Minnesota. It’ll be hard for Denver to win a road game without his defensive versatility.
Tuesday Night
The Tuesday schedule features three Game 5s: 76ers at Celtics, Hawks at Knicks and Blazers at Spurs. It’s pretty clear where the first and last series are going. But Atlanta and New York have arguably delivered the best series of the first round. The Knicks might have figured the Hawks out, as the team’s Game 4 performance was super convincing. Yet it’s hard to rule Atlanta out with Quin Snyder looking a little more sure of his team than Mike Brown is.
