AdventHealth 400

The first of two stops at Kansas Speedway is this weekend with the AdventHealth 400. Last week’s race at Bristol Motor Speedway was the first of two there as well, so it’s going to be important to pay close attention this week to see if you can pick up on anything for the second go-round, which will be during the Cup Series Chase.

This is the ninth race of 36 for the Cup Series season, which includes three road course races as mentioned, a street course in Coronado, a revamped playoff format, the second annual In-Season Challenge, and a whole lot of exciting Saturdays and Sundays for race fans and bettors.

2026 NASCAR Cup Series Winners and Standings

Through eight races, we have five winners, as Ty Gibbs picked up his first of the season and first of his career at Bristol. His Food City 500 triumph was his first in 131 career races for the grandson of legendary football coach and NASCAR owner Joe Gibbs. Gibbs had run in all 36 races each of the last three years without a win. Now he has one to go along with four other top-five finishes. He hasn’t finished lower than sixth since the second race of the season.

The other race winners are Tyler Reddick (4), Ryan Blaney, Denny Hamlin, and Chase Elliott. Not surprisingly, Reddick leads the points race with 386, but he only has 58 stage points, so you can see how the new scoring system that heavily benefits race winners has had an impact thus far. Blaney, who had the fastest lap last week and finished second, is also second in points, 62 behind Reddick. Hamlin is the only other driver with 300 or more points and sits third, 24 points in back of Reddick. Gibbs is fourth and Elliott is fifth.

The rest of the top 10 features Kyle Larson, who was third last week and won the first two stages, William Byron, Bubba Wallace, Christopher Bell, and Chris Buescher.

The postseason format has changed and so has the qualification, as winning a race isn’t guaranteed to result in a playoff spot. The top 16 in points get in and there are no rounds in the postseason now, so it’s just a sprint to see who can accumulate the most points.

AdventHealth 400 Winners

Larson’s near-miss last week might be a good sign heading into this week, as he’s won this race in back-to-back years and won the fall race back in 2021. He is the only multiple winner over the last 10 races at Kansas, with wins for Hamlin, Wallace, Elliott, Reddick, Kyle Busch. and Ross Chastain among active drivers.

Larson’s 761 laps led dwarf the rest of the field, though Hamlin does have seven top-five finishes to Larson’s six. Nobody else has more than four. Larson’s average finish is 7.0, with Hamlin at 7.7, and Elliott at 8.8. Nobody else has averaged a top-10 finish.
