San Diego Padres vs. Washington Nationals
Padres starter Michael King has been effective with a 2.76 ERA, but his 3.63 FIP and four walks per nine innings suggest some regression risk. Washington’s offense leads the league at nearly 5.4 runs per game, giving the Nationals a chance to contribute offensively. Foster Griffin has been serviceable with a 3.63 ERA, though his 4.39 FIP and 1.5 home runs allowed per nine innings are concerns, and the Nationals bullpen ranks just 24th in ERA.
Pick: Padres Moneyline -123 and Over 7.5 Runs
Greg’s Handicap: Padres -137 and Total 8.7
Toronto Blue Jays vs. Baltimore Orioles
Brandon Young’s 3.47 ERA looks better than his underlying metrics, as his 4.74 FIP, modest strikeout rate, and elevated walk rate suggest regression may be coming. Trey Yesavage has been outstanding for Toronto, posting a 2.25 ERA and 1.91 FIP while not allowing a home run through 32 innings. The Blue Jays also hold the bullpen advantage.
Pick: Blue Jays Moneyline -122
Greg’s Handicap: Blue Jays -144
Minnesota Twins vs. Pittsburgh Pirates
Mitch Keller continues to limit damage with only 0.6 home runs and 2.7 walks allowed per nine innings while maintaining a 3.64 ERA. Bailey Ober owns a respectable 3.92 ERA but has been vulnerable to home runs and is backed by a Twins bullpen that ranks 26th in ERA. Pittsburgh’s offense has also been one of the league’s best, ranking third in scoring.
Pick: Pirates Moneyline -138
Greg’s Handicap: Pirates -167
4:10 PM Eastern
Milwaukee Brewers vs. Houston Astros
Brandon Sproat has struggled badly with a 5.84 ERA, 1.8 home runs allowed per nine innings, and significant command issues. Peter Lambert has pitched better than expected for Houston, but his four walks per nine innings and the Astros’ league-worst bullpen remain concerns. Milwaukee’s offense ranks fifth in scoring and is backed by a much stronger relief corps.
Pick: Brewers Moneyline -108 and Over 8.5 Runs
Greg’s Handicap: Brewers -116 and Total 8.7
Boston Red Sox vs. Cleveland Guardians
Sonny Gray has remained effective despite a career-low strikeout rate, posting a 3.27 ERA while limiting walks and home runs. Parker Messick has impressed with a 2.24 ERA and nearly 10 strikeouts per nine innings. Cleveland faces a Red Sox offense that performs far better on the road than at home, creating value on the Guardians side.
Pick: Guardians Moneyline -129 and Over 7 Runs
Greg’s Handicap: Guardians -141 and Total 7.6
Miami Marlins vs. New York Mets
Tyler Phillips’ 1.07 ERA is unlikely to be sustainable given his 3.30 FIP and limited workload, as he has rarely worked beyond four innings. Christian Scott has pitched well overall but issues too many walks, which can shorten his outings. Miami’s offense has been productive despite limited power, creating the ingredients for a higher-scoring game.
Pick: Marlins vs. Mets Over 7 Runs
Greg’s Handicap: Total 8.1
10:10 PM Eastern
Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Seattle Mariners
Ryne Nelson has struggled to keep the ball in the park, allowing 1.7 home runs per nine innings, but Arizona’s offense ranks eighth in road scoring and can manufacture runs without relying on home runs. Bryan Woo has been solid for Seattle with strong command and home-run suppression, though the Diamondbacks are capable of generating offense through contact and baserunning.
Pick: Diamondbacks vs. Mariners Over 7 Runs
Greg’s Handicap: Total 7.7
