Thunder vs. Spurs Game 6 Picks

With Oklahoma City already an in-pocket play to win the NBA title, this isn’t a game I’m looking to the sides or totals. I’m picking my spots very carefully, and Game 5 was one of them with the Thunder dropping to as low as -150. That was simply too good of a price to pass on with the best team in basketball, in the best home environment in basketball. However, I do have a pretty strong lean on Oklahoma City in Game 6. At Kalshi, you can get that for the equivalent of +144.

It’s just hard not to take some learnings from what we have seen in the last four games. The Thunder have won three of the last four, doing so in somewhat convincing fashion. And if it wasn’t for a Victor Wembanyama logo-ball in Game 1, Oklahoma City would have taken this in five.

It feels pretty obvious that San Antonio’s strategy of bombarding Shai Gilgeous-Alexander with pressure isn’t working. He’s doing too good a job of making quick reads and getting his teammates the rock in open space. And the Thunder’s shooters are all answering the bell with their catch-and-shoot jumpers, even if that wasn’t the case in Game 4. Realistically, even with someone like Alex Caruso due for some serious shooting regression, trying to defeat the best team in basketball by giving a great group of role players open shots is a risky proposition. The Thunder are also playing swarming defense on the other end, doing a good job of keeping Wembanyama from catching the ball deep in the paint. They’re also not allowing wounded versions of Dylan Harper and De’Aaron Fox to live in the paint.

Having said all of that, there’s a lot that suggests this will be another Oklahoma City win, and that’ll only feel more likely if Jalen Williams sheds his questionable tag and plays. However, the one play I’m making in this one is Chet Holmgren to have Over 13.5 points.

I have been pretty hard on Holmgren when talking through this series on Hardwood Handicappers, as it just feels like he can be so much better. Sure, the matchup with Wembanyama is absolutely brutal for him, but anyone with Holmgren’s size and skill should be able to contribute. Well, we saw that in Game 5. Holmgren scored 16 points in that victory for the Thunder, looking more aggressive putting the ball on the floor and more comfortable going to his turnaround jumper. Well, if he can just continue to do that, he should be able to reach 14 points in this massive Game 6. As long as he knocks down a triple or two, it really shouldn’t even be close.

Bet: Holmgren Over 13.5 Points (-109)
