England vs. Argentina
Atlanta Stadium, Atlanta, Georgia

England vs. Argentina is our second World Cup semifinal, with both nations on the brink of history. England are aiming to reach their first World Cup final since 1966, while Argentina are looking to defend their crown for what could be the final World Cup of Lionel Messi’s illustrious career. Speaking of Messi, this will also be the first time he has ever faced England at international level, adding another fascinating storyline to what is already a blockbuster semifinal.
I think fatigue could play a huge role in this one. Both quarterfinals went to extra time, with England eventually beating Norway 2-1 after the additional 30 minutes, while Argentina needed extra time themselves to see off 10-man Switzerland 3-1. If I had to pick the fresher side, I would probably lean towards England. Argentina have now played two extra-time matches in the knockout stages and had to produce a frantic comeback against Egypt after trailing 2-0.
That said, England certainly won’t be at full fitness either. The effort it took to get past Mexico at the Estadio Azteca was enormous, and then the heat and humidity against Norway in Miami seemed to take plenty out of the players as well.
For me, the value in this match lies in the Both Teams to Score market. Argentina have been the highest-scoring side in the tournament, but they have looked vulnerable defensively, conceding to Jordan, twice to Cape Verde, twice to Egypt, and again to Switzerland.
England has been one of the better defensive teams over the past few years, but I don’t think they have looked quite as solid during this World Cup. Both Teams to Score has landed in every knockout match involving England or Argentina so far, and I think there’s every chance that trend continues.
When I look at the attacking quality on both sides, I struggle to see either team being kept off the scoresheet. Lionel Messi continues to strengthen his case as the greatest player of all time, Jude Bellingham has been, in my opinion, the best midfielder at this tournament, and Harry Kane has once again delivered when England have needed him most.
I genuinely have no idea which way this game goes on the moneyline, but I do think both teams will create chances. At -110, Both Teams to Score stands out as the best bet of the match.
