The 2026 Mutua Madrid Open is underway at the Caja Magica in Madrid, Spain, and the clay-court season only heats up from here. We’ve broken down the day’s best tennis betting picks for Madrid, digging into matchup tactics, surface tendencies, and current form to find the sharpest edges on the board. Whether you’re betting the moneyline, game spread, set spread, or total, our 2026 Mutua Madrd Open best bets are built to help you profit. I’m dropping some of my favorite plays for Wednesday, April 22 below, but make sure you also monitor the picks page throughout the day. I generally have a few more picks over there, plus I occasionally add plays based on how lines are moving. That’s also where Gill Alexander posts his best bets.
Emilio Nava vs. Jenson Brooksby
I understand why Nava is a favorite to beat Brooksby. Nava has accomplished far more than Brooksby on clay, as the 24-year-old has done a lot of damage on the dirt at the Challenger level. However, I do feel as though Brooksby is a brutal matchup for Nava.
Brooksby comes into this match on a three-match losing streak, and he’s just 4-9 at the ATP level in 2026. He hasn’t played well since the start of the new season, and that’s definitely concerning coming into this one. But when Brooksby is at his best, he’s one of the best defensive players in tennis, he has a good deal of variety, and he just understands how to grind opponents down to win matches. Nava, who has a lot of firepower but struggles to harness it, could struggle with all of that.
Nava is a player that can really rack up unforced errors in a hurry, and Brooksby has a way of getting errors out of his opponents. Also, Nava isn’t the type of dominant server that can take the racquet out of Brooksby’s hands. He only holds at a 79.3% clip. So, even in Madrid’s server-friendly conditions, Brooksby should be able to get into some of his service games.
I would definitely say Nava has a good shot at winning this match, as Brooksby is out of form and doesn’t play his best on the dirt. However, I give Brooksby a much better chance than 38% to win this match. I’m shocked we’re getting Brooksby at anything more than +120.
Bet: Brooksby ML (+163)
Zhizhen Zhang vs. Vit Kopriva
Zhang might not be considered much of a clay-court player, but this is actually the only surface in which he has a winning record at the ATP level. Zhang is 22-17 on the dirt in his career, and the conditions in Madrid should only make him a little more dangerous. I’d actually say these two players are somewhat similar, as both of them are looking to win quick points with aggressive ball-striking. However, I do think Zhang is the player that is more likely to pick up easy points on serve. That could make the difference.
This year, Zhang has a hold percentage of 83.5% and Ace Rate of 10.1%. Meanwhile, Kopriva’s hold percentage is down at 77.3% and his Ace Rate is just 5.2%.
Kopriva could be slightly sturdier than Zhang from the baseline, but I do think that latter has more match-by-match upside with his power. That, combined with the serve, makes Zhang a must-back option on Wednesday.
Bet: Zhang ML (-110 – 1.5 units)
