England vs. Norway
Miami Stadium, Miami, Florida
Saturday, June 11th, 5 p.m. ET
England battled through a fierce contest at the Estadio Azteca, and their reward is a semi-final against a Norwegian side that has impressed throughout the tournament, led by one of the form players of the World Cup, Erling Haaland.
Norway come into this match as sizeable underdogs, but they were an even higher price against Brazil and stepped up when it mattered. That said, this is where I draw the line. I believe England is a better team than the current Brazil side, and I think the market can’t have England as a bigger price to beat Norway than Brazil were, especially since I think Norway were rather fortunate to go through.
England’s heart and desire were on full display against Mexico. As a collective, it was one of the best performances I have seen from this team, and having followed England at every major tournament for years, that is saying something. Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane continue to deliver in the biggest moments, and both have been essential to England’s success throughout the competition.
Some may call me biased, but based on what I have seen from England against Croatia and Mexico, I have never felt more confident going into a match than I am against Norway. Norway have been impressive in their own right, but I think the difference in overall quality, defensive structure and coaching is significant.
Unlike Ghana and DR Congo, who sat deep and made England work for every opportunity, Norway are a far more attack-minded side. Their game revolves around creating chances for Haaland, but I am not convinced they will be able to control the midfield against England. With the athleticism and quality England possesses in the middle of the pitch, I expect them to dictate the game for long spells.
I usually get nervous before England’s biggest matches, especially one I’ll be attending in person, but this feels different. The confidence this team is playing with, combined with what I believe is a favorable tactical matchup, makes me believe England will get the job done inside 90 minutes. England on the moneyline is my favorite bet of the day.
