UFC point spread wagering gains new interest
Those reviewing the UFC betting menu of DraftKings sportsbook recently may have noticed that they’re now offering ‘point spread’ betting on UFC bouts.
Intrigued, I scoured their pages to uncover the rules regarding such wagering which are clearly accessed by choosing the particular athlete one would like to consider…then the rules will pop up for the wagerer’s review.
So, with a complete understanding of the rules, I thought I’d give this wager a try on a fight where I handicap advantage by utilizing this method.
Miranda Maverick -295 vs. Jasmine Jasudavicius +250
Women’s Strawweight (125 pounds)
In this bout, we have a Canadian fighter competing in Vancouver by the name of Jasmine Jasudavicius. She’s going to be the larger, longer athlete who is also nine years older at age 34.
Jasmine’s body of work shows experience but against lower tiers of UFC competition in her weight class. She opened a +200 underdog in a three-round fight where the total is set at 2.5 Rds. Over -295.
That total line is foundational to my wager in this fight as is the fact that Jasmine’s opponent is a junkyard dog.
Yes, Maverick is the smaller athlete, but she’s a much more versed mixed martial artist. There’s a reason she’s the favorite here, and while I can’t see her putting Jasmine away (which by the way would result in a winning bet), I do see a pretty one-sided affair. This is a fight where I believe Maverick gets the Canadian fighter to the floor and then pounds damage for fifteen minutes in a fairly dominant performance.
Pick: Maverick -3.5 -120
In essence, I’m taking Maverick from -295 to win in any fashion to close to a pick ‘em by utilizing this ‘point spread’ strategy.
I must have Maverick win convincingly though!
