College Football Week 9 Predictions from the T Shoe Index:

The college football season is flying by, as we’re already heading into Week 9, yet I still don’t think we know who the best team in the country is. Everyone has shown some flaws to this point, and there feels like a certain level of parity among the top handful of teams. Don’t look now, but Ohio State, Notre Dame (!!) and Oregon sit atop the TSI ratings this week (remember, they’re forward-looking, not résumé rankings). At the same time, Indiana has made its way into the top 10, and Clemson is also on the ascent. Let’s see where these updated TSI ratings can help us catch some early-week line value in the current market and find some college football Week 9 best bets before Thursday’s article, which analyzes the market moves and provides some late-week bets based on those moves.

Tulane (-7.5; 65.5) vs. North Texas

I put real American currency on a North Texas Under last week (and not for the first time this season, unfortunately), and that Under was toast by about halftime. This North Texas team plays absolutely zero defense and can light up scoreboards with the best of them (at the G5 level, anyway). The Mean Green boasts TSI’s 12th-rated offense and the 122nd-rated (!!) defense; that’s almost unfathomable how a team could be so lopsided. Tulane, meanwhile, is no slouch offensively, either, ranking 14th on that side of the ball but having a respectable defense at 51st nationally. That’s still not enough defensive prowess to make me think the North Texas Over train will slow any time soon. As an underdog this season, North Texas is 3-0 to the Over, going over the total by 24 points per game! TSI projects a 70-piece in this game, so I’m all over this Over.

BYU (-2; 55.5) vs. UCF

Another team that has consistently burned me this season is BYU; however, thanks to a TSI formula tweak this past week, I finally see the light. TSI projects BYU as 12.5-point favorites against a UCF team that had been lifeless for a month before waking up to take Iowa State to the wire last week. Situationally, I think this is a great spot for BYU. UCF has already been blown out at home this season. The players seem checked out, and to top it off, they just blew their one chance at redeeming the season by allowing a late Iowa State touchdown drive to foil the upset bid. I think this team is on “quit watch” at this point, while BYU still feels they have something to prove to get – and keep – themselves in the CFP conversation. Give me the Cougars here.
