Best Bets on Today’s MLB Player Props Market
We’re in the final stretch of the 2023 MLB season and VSiN continues to have you covered with every way you can possibly bet on a baseball game. As always, Adam Burke will have daily best bets to give you some ideas of what to back when it comes to moneylines, run lines and totals. However, I’m tackling player props here, and I’m targeting Max Scherzer, Whit Merrifield and Julio Urias on Friday, September 1st. Keep reading to find out how I’m betting on all of them.

Here are our favorite MLB prop bets for Friday, September 1st:
Minnesota Twins at Texas Rangers (-148, 8)
Max Scherzer has pitched at least 7.0 innings in five of his last eight starts and I don’t see why he can’t go at least 6.1 tonight. The Twins have the highest strikeout rate in baseball, so Scherzer should be able to fool some hitters and cruise throughout this contest. He actually just pitched 7.0 innings against this same opponent on Saturday, and that was in a road start. Minnesota is nowhere near as good offensively on the road as it is at home. So, the Twins should struggle to put runners on here. I know the assumption will be that Minnesota will find a way to change its approach after struggling to hit Scherzer in the last time out, but he’ll make his adjustments too. And I love that this is going off at +145 odds.
Bet: Scherzer Over 18.5 Outs Recorded (+145)
Toronto Blue Jays (-192, 12) at Colorado Rockies
When looking for Blue Jays hitter props to attack in tonight’s Coors Field showdown with the Rockies, Whit Merrifield was the player that stood out. Merrifield is batting .285 with 16 doubles, eight homers and 46 RBIs against right-handed pitching this year. And he now gets to go up against Chris Flexen, who has a 6.94 ERA on the year. With that in mind, I like Merrifield to come through with at least one RBI in this game, and I’m surprised you can get it at plus-money odds. This game has a total of 12 and the Blue Jays are going to get some offense from somewhere. Why wouldn’t Merrifield be in on the action?
Bet: Merrifield Over 0.5 RBIs (+110)
Atlanta Braves (-130, 8.5) at Los Angeles Dodgers
Julio Urias hasn’t walked two batters in a start since late July, but it’s still something he has done seven times this season. Now, Urias has to go against a Braves team that has the highest wRC+ in baseball this season. This is the best offense in baseball this year, by far. So, Urias is going to be under a lot of pressure to be perfect. That might lead to him looking to paint corners a little too often, which will have him flirting with some walks. For that reason, I love him to have two or more walks at +130 odds tonight. The Braves don’t have one of the higher walk rates in baseball, but they do work counts. And if they do it tonight, something will have to give.
Bet: Urias Over 1.5 Walks (+130)
