Here are our favorite MLB prop bets for Thursday, August 31st:

New York Yankees (-120, 8) at Detroit Tigers

Spencer Torkelson isn’t a player that consistently goes out and gets hits, with his .229 batting average leaving a lot to be desired. However, he does have a lot of pop and he’s a guy that is a threat to go Over 1.5 total bases with one swing of the bat. For that reason, I’m playing him at +140 odds to do it against the Yankees today. Clarke Schmidt has mostly been solid for New York this season, but he has given up at least six hits in two of his last three starts. So, he’s certainly beatable right now. That makes this seem like a good price, and one that’s more worthy of playing on a smaller slate.

Bet: Torkelson Over 1.5 Total Bases (+140)

Miami Marlins (-162, 8.5) at Washington Nationals

Joan Adon’s strikeout total is suspiciously high today, which leads me to believe the oddsmakers want people to bet the Under. Adon has only had one start this season in which he has struck out at least five batters, as he had seven against the Cincinnati Reds on August 5th. But Adon has had three or fewer strikeouts in every other appearance he has made, so it’s weird seeing his total at 4.5. Of course, Adon has spent some time as a reliever and just recently started to get stretched out. But I’m going to zig while others zag and play the Over on his strikeout total. He just had a great performance against this Marlins offense, pitching 6.0 shutout innings. Now I just need him to go up from three strikeouts to five for a big payday.

Bet: Adon Over 4.5 Strikeouts (+150)

Atlanta Braves (-148, 8.5) at Los Angeles Dodgers

Lance Lynn has had two starts in which he has allowed at least three earned runs since joining the Dodgers, and he had a heck of a lot more than that when he was still with the Chicago White Sox. With that in mind, how can you not take the Over on his earned runs allowed against the Braves? Atlanta is scorching hot offensively coming into this game, as the Braves have scored at least five runs in six of their last seven games and at least seven runs in three of those seven. This is the best offense in baseball in wRC+ and a lot of other metrics, and I think they’ll show up in a big game against Los Angeles.

Bet: Lynn Over 2.5 Earned Runs Allowed (-130)
