Kansas City Royals at Minnesota Twins:
The Kansas City Royals have had a tough time on the road this season with a 27-28 record and will look to steal game one of their series in Minnesota against the Twins on Monday.
Brady Singer gets the start for the Royals, who’s pitched to a 3.03 ERA with 8.3 strikeouts to 2.5 walks per nine innings but has struggled on the road this season.
Top MLB Resources:
Singer has a 3.86 ERA on the road compared to a 2.50 ERA at home, serving up 1.6 home runs per nine innings, and has allowed at least three runs in four of his past seven road starts.
Singer’s bullpen has ranked 25th with a 4.58 ERA since May 1, but the offense entered Sunday ninth in the league in scoring with 4.8 runs per game.
The Twins bullpen has not been much better since May 1, with their 4.41 ERA ranking 22nd among MLB teams. They will look to Pablo Lopez’s good start on the mound.
Lopez’s advanced numbers are much more favorable than his raw ERA of 4.74, posting a 3.83 fielding independent with 10 strikeouts to two walks per nine innings.
Lopez’s weakness is giving up the deep ball, allowing 1.5 home runs per nine innings. However, he is backed up by an offense that is second in the American League in runs per game at home with nearly 5.1 and third in home runs per game at home.
With both offenses slugging and both bullpens struggling, Monday’s series opener in Minnesota will feature a heavy dose of offense.
