Yankees vs. Dodgers Side Analysis

Domingo German is 3-3 with a 3.98 ERA on the season. The righty is the definition of solid for this Yankees team, as he seems to always go out and give New York a chance. German isn’t the type that regularly shuts down opponents, but he isn’t the type to get blown up either. However, with this being a road start against one of the best offenses in baseball, you can’t rule out the possibility of Los Angeles having a big game.

German has struggled a bit on the road throughout his career, as he has a 3.75 ERA when pitching at Yankee Stadium and a 4.86 ERA everywhere else. Now, German faces a Dodgers offense that is tied for second in baseball in wRC+ against right-handed pitching. Only two teams have scored more runs than Los Angeles against righties, and the Dodgers are also first in MLB in ISO against them. With that in mind, any mistakes that German makes in this game could be pummeled. And that’s what makes this matchup a bit more dangerous for New York than Los Angeles.

For the Dodgers, starter Bobby Miller has been excellent since getting an opportunity with the team. The 24-year-old is 2-0 with a 1.64 ERA this season, giving up just two earned runs over 11.0 innings of work. Miller is the second-ranked prospect in the Los Angeles organization, so this is a kid that the Dodgers are expecting big things out of. And while Miller might be a little nervous having to go up against the Yankees in a primetime game, he is the more talented of the two starting pitchers tonight. When you combine that with the fact that Los Angeles also has the more reliable offense, it’s hard to come up with many reasons not to back the Dodgers in this spot.

Yankees vs. Dodgers Total Analysis

The Dodgers are third in the league in scoring against right-handed pitching, and the Yankees are right behind them in fourth. So, with two righties on the mound in tonight’s game, it’s a little hard to stay away from the over. These are simply two of the most powerful teams in baseball this season, and balls tend to fly when hitters make good, clean contact at Dodger Stadium.

The over is actually 25-15 when Los Angeles has faced right-handed starters this season, and the average total runs scored in those games was 10.7 runs per game. And the over has already hit in one of the games in this series, with the other ending in a push — and that push came in a game in which Gerrit Cole, one of the best pitchers in baseball, started for the Yankees.

These teams have also just played a ton of high-scoring games recently. The over is 4-1-1 in New York’s last six games, and it’s 9-2-1 in Los Angeles’ last 12. This is a game in which you’re better off playing the over, even if Miller does look the part of a future stud.

Yankees vs. Dodgers Best Bet

With the series on the line, how can you not go with the Dodgers to win this game? Los Angeles is a whole different beast against right-handed pitching, and German is far from the most inspiring option that New York can throw out there. This should be something of a high-scoring game, but it’s the Dodgers that should prevail. And the price isn’t horrible for a team with the best home winning percentage in the National League.

Pick: Dodgers (-150)
