New York Mets vs. Milwaukee Brewers Prediction:

The New York Mets had a rare two-day break when their games against the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday and Thursday were postponed. They look to maintain their position as the final National League Wild Card team when they play the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday.

While the Brewers are essentially locked into the number three seed in the National League Playoff picture, they have something to play for in that the Mets and Atlanta Braves have to play a doubleheader on Monday before the playoffs begin on Tuesday. The winner of that doubleheader will likely be the Brewers’ first-round opponent. They would like to ensure that Monday’s twin bill is as intense as possible to give them a tired first-round opponent with a depleted pitching rotation.

Top MLB Resources:

Brewers starting pitcher Frankie Montas will look to do his part. Montas has seen his strikeout numbers increase since being traded from 7.5 strikeouts per nine innings in Cincinnati to 10.8 with the Brewers.

While Montas has a 4.85 ERA for the season, he has allowed three earned runs or fewer in three of his four starts at home since being traded to the Brewers. He faces a Mets team that is seventh in the league in scoring with just under 4.8 runs per game.

The team just ahead of them at sixth in runs per game is the Brewers. They will look to get Mets starter Sean Manaea out of the game early.

For the season, Manaea has a 3.29 ERA with 9.3 strikeouts per nine innings, but he is dishing out 3.1 walks per nine innings, a big reason his fielding independent is higher than his ERA at 3.75.

The Mets’ biggest disadvantage is in the bullpen. The Brewers lead the National League with a 3.17 bullpen ERA, while the Mets 3.96 ERA ranks 17th in the MLB.

With the Mets being thrown off their rhythm and facing a Brewers team they can match it exceed their offensive prowess, especially with Francisco Lindor still fighting through injuries, the Brewers will start this crucial series with a win.
