Tuley: Wednesday Best Bets in MLB 5/31

Tuesday Best Bet Results

Tuesday was a pretty relaxing day on our Team Tuley family vacation in Hawaii.
We made our traditional trip to the North Shore area of Oahu, including swimming under Waimea Falls, a 40-foot high waterfall that empties into a 30-foot-deep mini-lake. On the way back to grandma’s house, we stopped at the Dole Pineapple Plantation for their Dole Whip treat (on previous visits, we’ve done the pineapple maze and train ride, but this time just stopped for a mid-afternoon dessert).
As for my Best Bets in these daily columns (since we haven’t quite paid for our whole 11-day trip with my winnings this month – hey, I’m sure everyone is dealing with the increased price of everything we do in our daily lives at home, but just imagine the sticker shock on all of these activities on the islands!!!), we went 0-1-1 with our posted plays.

Top MLB Resources:

We pushed on our top play of the day on the A’s First 5 Innings +190 vs. the Braves as they were tied 1-1 after 5 innings. This was a swagger play on the A’s as they snapped an 11-game losing streak the day before. In yesterday’ column, I mentioned that I wanted to find a +0.5 F5 price. With all my running around, I didn’t make that bet, but I would love to hear if any readers followed my advice and played it that way as the +0.5 cashed with the tie. Now, I did add a bet on the A’s full-game money line at +210 and I know a lot of readers play my picks that way. Even though I can’t claim it in my official record, I always try to point out that followers should be able to have even better results than my published plays (made the night before) through line shopping and timing the market.
I did lose my secondary play on the Angels First 5 +125 even though they led 3-1 heading into the bottom of the 4th inning only to have the White Sox rally with 4 runs to lead 5-3 after 5 on the way to a 7-3 victory.
The 0-1-1 day dropped our May record to 39-28-8 (58.2%) – even more impressive when you consider that many of those wins have been underdogs – and the plus-money has us still showing a net profit of $1,365.55 based on $100 flat bets, according to the VSiN Pro Picks page.
Let’s look for more Best Bets on Wednesday with two (hopefully) live MLB dogs as we close out the month of May. Note: We fully intend to play the underdog Miami Heat in Game 1 of the NBA Finals at the Denver Nuggets on Thursday night, but we’re not ready to lock it in yet as the Nuggets opened between -8 and -8.5 and the Heat were up to +9 at most books as of early Wednesday morning (late Tuesday night here in Hawaii). We’ll see if the line goes higher by the time we file our “Tuley’s Takes” column for Thursday morning, but readers are advised to monitor the lines on Wednesday and grab the most points possible with the Heat if the line starts to reverse.

MLB Wednesday Best Bets

Angels First 5 Innings +100 at White Sox: The Angels let me down on Tuesday, but I’m not against giving a team a second chance when I still feel they’re the right side. As stated above, the Angels were leading 3-1 heading into the bottom of the 4th on Tuesday before giving up the lead, so we’re hoping that Wednesday’s starter, Jaime Barria (1-2, 1.55 ERA), can fare better in holding down the Sox. We also like the Angels’ chances to rack up some runs vs. Lance Lynn (4-5, 5.83 ERA).

Pirates First 5 -105 at Giants: I waffled on whether to add this play or not as San Fran’s Alex Wood (1-0, 3.51 ERA) has been solid, but we’ll back Mitch Keller (6-1, 3.01 ERA). The Pirates have obviously come back to Earth after overachieving the first month of the season, but they are in a mini-swagger spot after snapping a 3-game losing streak with a tough 2-1 win on Tuesday and hopefully they can carry that momentum into at least the first half of this game.
